Alan Baddeley
Alan David Baddeley CBE FRS, is a British psychologist. He is known for his research on memory and for developing the three-component model of working memory. He is a professor of psychology at the University of York. Biography Baddeley was born in Leeds, Yorkshire on 23 March 1934. He lived there with his parents, Donald and Nellie Baddeley, until leaving for university. He decided to study psychology and was originally interested in psychoanalysis. Later he changed his focus to evidence-based psychology. In 1956, Baddeley went to the United States of America to continue his studies. After spending a year in America, he returned home. He then went to Cambridge, where he met and married Hilary Ann White. Baddeley and his wife have three sons. Aaron John Baddeley (born 17 March 1981) is an Australian professional golfer. He was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA and now plays on the U.S.-based PGA Tour, he has joint U.S. and Australian citizenship and was raised in Australia from the age of two. He represents Australia in international golf. Professional career When he was in his late teens, Baddeley was seen as one of the most promising talents in the world of golf. He was the youngest player ever to represent Australia in the Eisenhower Trophy and he won the Holden Australian Open as an amateur in 1999 and retained his title in 2000, by which time he had turned professional. Wilfred Baddeley
Wilfred Baddeley (11 January 1872 – 24 January 1929) was a British male tennis player and the elder of the Baddeley twins. Career Wilfred, the better-known competitor, made his debut at Wimbledon in 1889 and he went on to win singles title three times in 1891, 1892 and 1895. His 6–4, 1–6, 7–5, 6–0 win over Joshua Pim in 1891 at the age of 19 years and five months made him, until Boris Becker in 1985, the youngest men's singles champion at Wimbledon. He was also runner-up in 1893, 1894 and 1896. With Herbert, he won four doubles championships at Wimbledon in 1891, 1894 – 1896. The twins retired from competitive lawn tennis after the 1897 Wimbledon Championships to pursue their law careers but made a reappearance in the doubles event at Wimbledon in 1904 and 1905. Herbert Baddeley
Herbert Baddeley (11 January 1872 – 20 July 1931) was a British male tennis player and the younger of the Baddeley twins. Herbert reached the singles semi finals at Wimbledon three times. In 1894 he beat Harry S. Barlow before losing to Ernest Lewis. In 1895 he beat Reginald Doherty before handing a walkover to his brother. In 1896 he beat William Larned before losing to Wilberforce Eaves. In 1891 and 1894–1896 he and his twin brother Wilfred won the Wimbledon doubles championship four times. When Wilfred was beaten in the 1896 singles Challenge Round by Harold Mahony, they both retired from lawn tennis to concentrate on their law career. Major General Frederick Henry Baddeley (4 December 1794 – 4 May 1879), born Frederick Henry ''Clinton-''Baddeley, youngest son of Sir Henry Clinton and his partner, Mary Baddeley (1756 – 27 March 1820), was a British military engineer of the Corps of Royal Engineers with his early service being in the Napoleonic wars including the capture of Paris in 1815. He then did a tour in the West Indies from 1817 to 1819, and in 1821 was assigned to Quebec City in Lower Canada. Most of his important work in Canada had to do with the geology of much of southeastern Canada. British military officers, and Baddeley being considered one of the best, did extensive geological studies of this huge area. Robert Baddeley (actor)
Robert Baddeley (1733–1794) was an England, English actor. His parentage is unknown, as is his place of birth, though the latter may have been London. He worked as a cook and valet, and one of his employers was the actor-manager Samuel Foote, who may have inspired him to take to the stage. He spent three years following another employer on a Grand Tour, which helped him to develop the facility with languages and accents which was to be a hallmark of his career. In 1760 Baddeley made his stage debut in one of Foote's productions at the Haymarket Theatre in London. Soon afterwards he trod the boards of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. By 1762 he was a full member of the Drury Lane company, and he remained there for the rest of his career, while also playing summer seasons at the Haymarket. Tom Baddeley
Thomas Baddeley (2 November 1874 – 24 September 1946) was an England international footballer who played as a goalkeeper. In his playing career, Baddeley made over 350 league appearances, and also earned five caps. After starting his career in the English Football League with Burslem Port Vale, he spent 1896 to 1907 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then ended his career with spells at Bradford Park Avenue and Stoke. Early and personal life Thomas Baddeley was born on 30 October 1874 in Bycars, near Burslem, Staffordshire. He worked as a baker. He married Phoebe Anne Blackham in 1904, and had three sons: Sydney, Thomas (who died in 1910 at the age of three), and Tom (born 1912). He was working as a potters turner in 1911.
