''Back n da Hood'' is a 1992 EP by hyphy Bay Area rapper Mac Dre. It was recorded live from the Fresno County Jail and USP Lompoc over the phone. Its lyrics are about life in Fresno County Jail The Fresno County Jail is a detention center made up of three different adjacent complexes, located at 1225 M. The original issue of this album was only on cassette. It was reissued on CD in 1998 and later in 2005 with two bonus tracks taken from '' Young Black Brotha''. Track listing "'93" has an unlisted vignette containing a section of "It Don't Stop" following it. The vignette was indexed as a separate track on the 1998 CD of ''Back 'n da Hood'', but was integrated into "'93" on the 2005 issue. Andre Louis Hicks (July 5, 1970 – November 1, 2004), known by his stage name Mac Dre, was an American rapper from Vallejo, California. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Thizz Entertainment is a San Francisco Bay Area-based, independent record label, started in 1999 by rapper and music producer Andre Hicks, who was professionally known as rapper Mac Dre. Best known as a poster child of the hyphy movement that swept through the Bay Area in the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2004, Hicks was murdered by an unknown assailant while traveling after a performance in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon Hicks's death and at his written direction, his mother, Wanda Salvatto, (affectionally known as "Mac Wanda") became owner and CEO. There are no artists signed to the label and the company's primary focus is to manage Mac Dre's expansive music catalog of over 25 albums, preserve his legacy, and to hold artistic events to honor his memory.
