Babanco
Elvis Manuel Monteiro Macedo (born 27 July 1985), known as Babanco, is a Cape Verdean professional footballer who plays for Portuguese club U.D. Leiria as a midfielder. He spent most of his career in Portugal, making exactly 150 appearances in the Primeira Liga for Olhanense, Estoril and Feirense. Babanco earned a record 62 caps for Cape Verde from 2007 to 2019, representing the country at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 and 2015. Club career Born in Praia, Babanco started playing football with local Sporting Clube da Praia. In 2009, he moved to another club in his hometown, Boavista FC. In the 2010–11 season, Babanco signed with F.C. Arouca in Portugal, which was competing for the first time ever in the Segunda Liga. Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia ( Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK as well as Badiu: ''Sporting Klubi di Praia'') is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. The Amílcar Cabral Cup was an international association football tournament for Western African nations. The competition originally was played on an annual basis until 1989, since then it was played on a biennial basis. The tournament is named after Amílcar Cabral. There has been no edition since 2007. The 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, also known as the MTN Africa Cup of Nations due to the competition's sponsorship by MTN, was the 26th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial football tournament for nations affiliated to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
