Baal's River
Nuup Kangerlua is a long fjord in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It was formerly known by its colonial name as Godthaab Fjord (), Gilbert Sound and Baal's River.Nicoll, James. Located by the island's capital, Nuuk, it is the longest fjord on the Labrador Sea coast of Greenland, and one of the longest in the inhabited part of the country. Qeqertarsuaq Island (Nuuk)
Qeqertarsuaq, meaning 'The Large Island' in the Greenlandic language ( meaning 'big island' as well), is an uninhabited island in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. Geography Qeqertarsuaq is one of three mountainous islands located in the middle run of the long Nuup Kangerlua fjord, to the north of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Nuussuaq (district)
Nuussuaq is a district of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, It is located in the northern part of the city, west and southwest of Nuuk Airport, approximately outside the city center. History The district was established in the late 1970s, and has rapidly expanded since then, becoming the most populated neighborhood home to the majority of apartment buildings in the city and approximately 6.000 people. Kapisillit Kangerluaq
Kapisillit ( Danish: ''Lakskaj'') is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. The settlement had 43 inhabitants in 2024. Kangeq
Kangeq or Kangek ( Kalaallisut: "Promontory") is a former settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It is located on the same island that formed the first Danish-Norwegian colony on Greenland between 1721 and 1728. History As a coastal settlement, Kangeq was positioned on the migration route of the ancient Inuit peoples. Archeological finds from the Dorset culture era have been found near Kangeq. The Dorset people had vanished from the Nuuk region prior to 1000 CE. The island of Kangeq, dubbed Håbets Ø ("Island of Hope"), formed the site of Hans Egede's first settlement in Greenland after his landing on 3 July 1721. The settlement was relocated to the mainland by Major Claus Paarss in 1728. Sermitsiaq (mountain)
Sermitsiaq () () is a Greenlandic mountain in the district of Nuuk in the Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. Location The mountain is located in the center of its namesake island and 15 km north-east of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, in the Nuup Kangerlua (). Its summit is crowned by a sharp west–east ridge, from which three summit points emerge. These resemble a saddle, which gave the mountain and the island its Danish name. While its south side is shaped by steep rock formations, its north side is covered with glaciers. It also harbors a waterfall which is a tourist attraction. Due to its distinctive shape the mountain is Nuuk's most prominent landmark, incorporated into its flag and coat of arms.
