''BYO Split Series Volume I'' is an album by Leatherface and Hot Water Music, the first entry in the ''BYO Split Series''. It was released in 1999. Production The bands recorded the album after a joint 1998 tour of America. They embarked on a second joint tour, in 2000, to support the album. "Andy" is about former Leatherface bass player Andy Crighton, who had committed suicide before the band reformed. Critical reception '' Trouser Press'' called "Andy" "a blistering return," writing that Leatherface's half of the album "picks up where ''The Last'' left off, obliterating the five-year gap between studio recordings." Leatherface (band)
Leatherface were a British punk rock band from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, fronted by Frankie Stubbs. ''Trouser Press'' called them "England's finest, most exciting punk band of the 90s" and ''The Guardian'' has called them "the greatest British punk band of the modern era." History and background Formed in August 1988 by Frankie Stubbs and Dickie Hammond (also of HDQ), Leatherface released four full-length albums before their initial split in 1993. Third album ''Mush'' was, according to Allmusic, "one of the most intense records of the 90s, with some of the fiercest playing and song dynamics.. considered one of the best albums of the decade." Hot Water Music is an American punk rock band formed in October 1994 and based in Gainesville, Florida. Since their formation, the group has consisted of Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard on shared lead vocals and guitars, bass guitarist Jason Black, and drummer George Rebelo. Since 2017, the band has also included guitarist-vocalist Chris Cresswell. The band initially broke up in August 1998, but reformed by October 1998. A second breakup came in 2006 but the band has been active since 2008. Better Youth Organization Records (BYO) is a Los Angeles, California based independent punk rock record label created by Shawn and Mark Stern, two of the three brothers of the California punk rock band Youth Brigade (the third being Adam Stern who plays bass but does not run BYO). ''No Division'' is the third full-length album by American post-hardcore band Hot Water Music. It was released by Some Records on August 10, 1999. Recording Hot Water Music's Jason Black stated of the recording: " n the last albumwe just didn't know what the hell we were doing. So this time around it was nice, we went to a studio and spent maybe two, two and a half weeks and really recorded an album, front to back. The album was produced by Walter Schreifels of Gorilla Biscuits fame. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''.
