BT Puppy Records
B.T. Puppy Records was an American record label formed in New York City in 1963 by Bright Tunes Productions, a music publishing and production company established by vocal group The Tokens. Background Initially set up to release the Tokens' own recordings, it had its greatest successes with another vocal group, The Happenings, whose hits included "See You in September" (1966) and " I Got Rhythm" (1967). Other musicians who recorded for the label included Beverly Warren, Lollipop Tree, and The Del-Satins. The label continued to release singles until 1970, and albums until 1972. The Tokens
The Tokens were an American doo-wop band and record production company group from Brooklyn, New York City. The group has had four top 40 hits on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, all in the 1960s, their biggest being the chart-topping 1961 hit single, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" borrowed heavily from the 1939 song "Mbube" by South African singer Solomon Linda. They are also known for having included at first Neil Sedaka, who later pursued a solo career. History The band was formed in 1955 at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, New York, and was known first as the Linc-Tones, a name inspired by the President of the United States' surname. The Happenings
The Happenings are a pop music group that originated in the 1960s. Members of the original group, created in the spring of 1961 and initially called "The Four Graduates" because all had just graduated from high school in Paterson, New Jersey, were Bob Miranda, David Libert, Tom Giuliano, and Ralph DiVito. In 1968 DiVito was replaced by Bernie LaPorta and Lenny Conforti also joined to play drums in the touring band. Both LaPorta and Conforti took a hiatus from the northern New Jersey band, the Emerald Experience, to play and tour with the Happenings. That lineup performed mostly at colleges and universities until 1970, when Libert left the band to manage other groups, including George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, Living Colour, Brian Auger, Vanilla Fudge, the Runaways (Cherie Currie, Joan Jett, Lita Ford), Mother's Finest, Alice Cooper and Evelyn "Champagne" King. "See You in September" is a song written by Sid Wayne and Sherman Edwards. It was first recorded by the Pittsburgh vocal group The Tempos. This first version peaked at #23 in the summer of 1959. The most popular take on "See You In September" was by The Happenings in 1966, which reached #3. Background Sid Wayne would recall the song's inception: "I was in the habit of going from my home on Long Island every day to Brill Building, in the Times Square area of New York City omeet with different songwriters there. We'd eat at Jack Dempsey's or The Turf Restaurant and then we'd go up to one of the publishers' offices and work in the piano room. We'd sit around saying to each other, 'What do you want to write today? A hit or a standard?'" I Got Rhythm
"I Got Rhythm" is a piece composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin and published in 1930, which became a jazz standard. Its chord progression, known as the "rhythm changes", is the foundation for many other popular jazz tunes such as Charlie Parker's and Dizzy Gillespie's bebop standard "Anthropology (Thrivin' on a Riff)". Composition The song came from the musical ''Girl Crazy'', which also includes two other hit songs, "Embraceable You" and " But Not for Me", and has been sung by many jazz singers since. It was originally written as a slow song for ''Treasure Girl'' (1928) and found another, faster setting in ''Girl Crazy''. The Scene (Canadian Band)
The Scene was a short-lived Canadian psychedelic rock band who had a Top 20 hit in their country in 1967 with " Scenes (From Another World)". Some members of the group would later end up in another Canadian rock band, Life. Background The Scene were a popular Montreal group. The line-up consisted of Michael Ship on keyboards, Truly Noland on guitar, Danny Zimmerman on bass and Marty Simon on drums. They released a single "Scenes (from Another World)" bw "You're In A Bad Way". The song got to #14 on the RPM Chart on December 2nd, 1967. Career Neil Sheppard aka Neil Ship was in New York, where he met Hank Medress and The Tokens, who owned the B.T. Puppy label. He did some studio work for them. Hands Of The Clock
A clock face is the part of an analog clock (or watch) that displays time through the use of a flat dial with reference marks, and revolving pointers turning on concentric shafts at the center, called hands. In its most basic, globally recognized form, the periphery of the dial is numbered 1 through 12 indicating the hours in a 12-hour cycle, and a short hour hand makes two revolutions in a day. A long minute hand makes one revolution every hour. The face may also include a '' second hand'', which makes one revolution per minute. The term is less commonly used for the time display on digital clocks and watches. A second type of clock face is the 24-hour analog dial, widely used in military and other organizations that use 24-hour time.
