BSG Wismut Gera is a German association football club playing in Gera, Thuringia. The club is the successor to ''1. SV Gera'' whose football department joined ''Blau-Weiß Gera'' and ''Geraer KFC Dynamos'' in 2007 to form ''FV Gera Süd'', which, in turn, changed its name to ''BSG Wismut Gera'' in 2009. __TOC__ History ''SpVgg Gera'' was created in 1922 out of the merger of the predecessor associations ''Allgemeinen Turngemeinde Gera'' and ''1. Thüringenliga
The Thüringenliga is the sixth tier (VI) of the German football league system and the highest league in the German state of Thuringia (german: Thüringen). Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fifth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the fourth tier. Overview The Thüringenliga was established in 1990 as the '' Landesliga Thüringen'' from fourteen clubs as a highest league for the German state of Thuringia, which was established after the league in October 1990, and the Thuringia Football Association, TFV (german: Thüringer Fußball-Verband). The FDGB-Pokal (Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund Pokal or Free German Trade Union Federation Cup) was an elimination football tournament held annually in East Germany. It was the second most important national title in East German football after the DDR-Oberliga championship. The founder of the competition was East Germany's major trade union. History The inaugural FDGB-Pokal (generally referred to in English as the East German Cup) was contested in 1949, four years before the initial DFB-Pokal was played in the western half of the country. FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen is a German association football club from Nordhausen, Thuringia. The club's greatest success has been promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost in 1995 and 2013. The Landesliga ( en, Football State League) is a tier of football in some states of the German football league system. In Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Hamburg, the Landesligas are set right below the Oberliga and therefore are the sixth tier. The reason for this is that Bavaria, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, and Bremen are the only places in Germany where the Oberliga, the State, and the Verband are geographically the same, while the other two states simply chose to call their leagues ''Landesligas'' when establishing them in 1990. The DDR-Liga (English: GDR League or ''East German League'') was, prior to German reunification in 1990, the second level of football competition in the DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik or German Democratic Republic, commonly East Germany), being roughly equivalent to the 2. Bundesliga in West Germany. Overview 1950-1955 The league was established with two divisions of ten teams each in 1950 as the level of play below the DDR-Oberliga, and as such was the second tier of the East German football league system.
