BOFFO
BOFFO is a nonprofit arts community and organization in Fire Island Pines, New York. Since 2009, BOFFO has presented the work of 700+ artists across a breadth of disciplines to share and perform work during the summer months. The multidisciplinary organization has aspects of both an artist residency program, with workshops and artist lectures, and a performance festival. At the end of each summer, the program hosts the Boffo Fire Island Performance Festival, which showcases experimental dance, performance, and music. Previous collaborators for the Performance Festival include OCDChinatown and Tavia Nyong'o. OCDChinatown is a Contemporary art, contemporary space for sound, image, object, movement and thought, located in New York City in the Chinatown, Manhattan, Chinatown neighborhood of Manhattan. Ryan McNamara
Ryan Ponder McNamara (born 1979) is an American artist known for fusing dance, theater, and history into situation-specific, collaborative performances. McNamara has held performances and exhibitions at Art Basel, The High Line, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Whitney Museum, MoMA P.S.1, and The Kitchen amongst other places. Early life and education McNamara was born and raised in Arizona. He studied photography at Arizona State University and graduated with a MFA at Hunter College in New York City. Work McNamara typically works in with sculpture, drawing, video, and performance. The artist has described his work as "under-your-bed" art and, more recently, image-heavy collaborative performances nicknamed "readymade choreography." Fire Island Pines, New York
Fire Island Pines (often referred to as ''The Pines'', simply ''Pines'', or ''FIP'') is a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is located on Fire Island, a barrier island separated from the southern side of Long Island by the Great South Bay. Fire Island Pines and the adjoining Cherry Grove are the areas most strongly associated with the gay community on Fire Island. The island has been referred to as America's first gay and lesbian town and served since the 1920s and 1930s as a refuge for vacationers and others who desired the more liberal attitude the island's occupants allowed. Raúl De Nieves
Raul de Nieves (born 1983, Michoacán, Mexico) is a multimedia artist, performer, and musician. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Early life De Nieves grew up in Michoacán, Mexico. His father passed away when de Nieves was two. Several years later, de Nieves and his family emigrated to San Diego, San Diego, CA. Carlos Motta (artist)
Carlos Motta (born 1978) is a Colombian-born, New York-based artist. Motta has an interdisciplinary practice making work in film, photography and sculpture. Motta's practice challenges dominant ideas about sexuality and gender using a myriad of archival material, art historical references, and the body. Early life and education Motta was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. He received a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in 2001 and an MFA from Bard College in 2003. Wardell Milan is an American visual artist residing in New York City. His work consists of drawing, painting, and photography, as well as constructing three-dimensional dioramas. Kia LaBeija (born Kia Michelle Benow; March 18, 1990) is an American fine artist. Her most well known series, ''24,'' is a sociopolitical commentary on the effects of growing up as a young woman of color with HIV. She is a former Mother of the Royal House of LaBeija. Gogo Graham is a transgender woman who designs clothing specifically catered to trans women. Originally from Texas, she now is based in Brooklyn, NY, and has garnered national attention by working alongside prominent industry moguls such as Women’s History Museum and RuPaul. She has since branched out to create her own collections and has had two collections shown at New York Fashion Week. The term queer ecology refers to a perspective which views nature, biology, and sexuality through the lens of queer theory. It objects to what it considers heterosexist notions of nature, drawing from science studies, ecofeminism, environmental justice, and queer geography. DIS is a collaborative project based in New York City. It was founded in 2010 by Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, David Toro, Nick Scholl, Patrik Sandberg and Samuel Adrian Massey, and publishes ''DIS Magazine'', a twist on a lifestyle and fashion magazine. It is now composed of Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso and David Toro. The project's title refers to the prefix dis- ('to do the opposite of') and is meant to reflect an oppositional attitude.
