BMW R1150R
The BMW R1150R is a standard (or roadster) motorcycle made by BMW Motorrad from 2001 through 2005, the successor to the R 1100 R that had been discontinued in 1999. The R 1150 R was marketed as a road going motorcycle suited for general commuting as well as sports touring. In 2006 it was succeeded by the R 1200 R. Compared to the related R 1150 RT touring motorcycle, the R 1150 RS sport-touring bike, and the R 1150 GS dual-sport (or adventure) bike, the R or 'roadster' version was the non-specialist, aimed at the 'all-rounder' niche, emphasizing balanced traits, and versatility. Sport Touring Motorcycle
A sport touring motorcycle (sometime a "sports-tourer") is a type of motorcycle that combines the performance of a sport bike with the long-distance capabilities and comfort of a touring motorcycle. The first sport-tourer is said to be the fully faired 1977 BMW R100RS. Journalist Peter Egan defines the sport-tourer as a "café racer that doesn't hurt your wrists and a touring bike that doesn't feel like a tank," and identified the R100RS as the first example he owned. Suspension (motorcycle)
A motorcycle's suspension serves a dual purpose: contributing to the vehicle's handling and braking, and providing safety and comfort by keeping the vehicle's passengers comfortably isolated from road noise, bumps and vibrations. The typical motorcycle has a pair of fork tubes for the front suspension, and a swingarm with one or two shock absorbers for the rear suspension. Front suspension The most common form of front suspension for a modern motorcycle is the telescopic fork. Dual-sport Motorcycle
A dual-sport motorcycle is a type of street-legal motorcycle that is designed for both on and off-road use. The terms ''all-road,'' ''on/off road,'' and ''dual-purpose'' are also used for this class of motorcycles. Dual-sports are equipped with street-legal equipment such as lights, speedometer, mirrors, horn, license plate mounting, and muffler and can, therefore, be registered and licensed. BMW R 1150 GS
The BMW R1150GS and R1150GS Adventure are motorcycles that were manufactured by BMW Motorrad from 1999 through 2004. There was a limited run of 2005-06 model year R1150GSA models as well. The R1150GS models are part of the BMW GS family of dual-sport or adventure motorcycles that have been produced from 1981 to the present date. The bikes have a 1,130 cc horizontally opposed flat-twin engine and shaft drive. Production history The 1,130 cc R1150GS had a new six-speed gearbox. It replaced the R1100GS, which had a 1,085 cc engine and a five speed gearbox. The standard R1150GS model was produced from 1999 to 2004, when it was replaced by the more powerful and lighter R1200GS.
