BK Skonto
BK Skonto is the name of a former professional basketball club that was based in Riga, Latvia. History BK Skonto was founded in 2001 as a basketball section of FC Skonto. Basketball club was created by FC Skonto president Guntis Indriksons and basketball legend Valdis Valters. Skonto took the place in Latvian Basketball League from BK Brocēni, other basketball club from Riga, which stopped to exist in 2001. Skonto's main focus was developing young Latvian talents and they did so by giving opportunity to rising stars such as Andris Biedriņš, Kristaps Valters, Jānis Blūms, Sandis Valters, Kaspars Bērziņš, Kristaps Janičenoks and others. Skonto lasted three seasons and in every one of them made it to Latvian league finals, where they lost to BK Ventspils. In 2004 club's president Guntis Indriksons announced that he won't continue to support club and BK Skonto's existence stopped. Kristaps Valters
Kristaps Valters (born September 18, 1981) is a Latvian former professional basketball player. After retiring he became a coach, and is currently working as a head coach for Valmiera/ORDO. Playing career Valters first played professionally in 1998, for ASK/Brocēni/LMT. In 2000, Valters signed his first foreign contract, with Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi, but played there only one season. He then returned to the Latvian Basketball League, signing a two-year contract with the newly created team Skonto. In 2003, he played in the NBA Summer League for the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside number #1 pick in that draft LeBron James. In the fall of that year, he returned to Europe and played for Panionios. Valdis Valters
Valdis Valters (born August 4, 1957) is a retired Latvian professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position for the senior USSR national team. He is regarded as one of the greatest players to have played the game in Europe in the 1980s. Considering his lengthy work and deep connection to the sport, Valters has been one of the most influential people in Latvian basketball history. He became a FIBA Hall of Fame player in 2017. Club career Valters spent most of his club career playing with the Latvian club VEF Rīga. In 1982, he set the USSR Premier League's all-time record for points scored in a single game, when he scored 69 points against Dynamo Moscow. Lamayn Wilson (born June 11, 1980) is an American professional basketball player who last played for ADA Blois Basket 41 of the LNB Pro B. Dametri Antonio Hill (born January 8, 1974) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6-foot-7, 290-pound center/power forward, he played high school basketball at Dixie Hollins High School in his native St. Petersburg, Florida and played four years of college basketball for the Florida Gators. Aigars Vītols (born February 15, 1976) is a former Latvian professional basketball player and a current politician for the Latvian Union of Greens and Farmers.
