BGL (artists)
BGL is a Canadian artist collective composed of Jasmin Bilodeau (b. 1973, Lac-Mégantic, QC), Sébastien Giguère (b. 1972, Arthabaska, QC ) and Nicolas Laverdière (b. 1972, Québec, QC). The artist collective have been active since 1996 since completing their studies together at Laval University in Québec City, Canada. Work BGL is known for their self-referential and in situ installations. Their art is in direct dialogue with contemporary culture. BGL's projects vacillate between the boundaries of destruction and excess. The trio subtly challenges political notions through absurdist installations and performances. The artist collective produce art that engages in social criticism and in that way is reminiscent of the work by General Idea (1969–1994). Tim Gardner
Tim Gardner (born 1973 in Iowa City, Iowa) is an American-born Canadian painter known for his watercolors of his brothers and friends involved in youthful revels often set in nature. Gardner obtained his BFA from the University of Manitoba in 1996 followed by an MFA from Columbia University in 1999, Shortly after finishing his graduate degree Gardner sold every work in his initial commercial gallery solo exhibition at the 303 Gallery to which he had been recommended by photographer Collier Schorr who was a visiting artist in residence during Garner's tenure at Columbia. To date Gardner has had four exhibitions at 303; 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005. Gardner has had two solo exhibitions at Stuart Shave/Modern Art in London(2003 and 2006). General Idea
General Idea was a collective of three Canadian artists, Felix Partz, Jorge Zontal and AA Bronson, who were active from 1967 to 1994. As pioneers of early conceptual and media-based art, their collaboration became a model for artist-initiated activities and continues to be a prominent influence on subsequent generations of artists. Initially working in Toronto, from 1968 through 1993 they divided their time between Toronto and New York before returning to Toronto for the last few months of their time together. General Idea's work inhabited and subverted forms of popular and media culture, including boutiques, television talk shows, trade fair pavilions, mass media and beauty pageants. The beauty pageant, ''The 1971 Miss General Idea Pageant,'' allowed for both male and female artist to send in pictures of them wearing the taffeta dress provided. Musée National Des Beaux-arts Du Québec
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec ( en, National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), abbreviated as MNBAQ, is an art museum in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The museum is situated in Battlefield Park and is a complex consisting of four buildings. Three of the buildings were purpose-built for the museum. One building was initially built as a provincial prison before being repurposed for museum use. The institution was opened as the Musée de la province de Québec in 1933. The museum was a provincial archives, arts, and natural science museum until 1962, when the natural science collection was removed. In the following year, the museum was renamed the Musée du Quebec.
