''The BFG'' (short for ''The Big Friendly Giant'') is a 1982 children's book written by British novelist Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake. It is an expansion of a short story from Dahl's 1975 book '' Danny, the Champion of the World''. The book is dedicated to Dahl's late daughter, Olivia, who died of measles encephalitis at the age of seven in 1962. An animated adaptation was released in 1989 with David Jason providing the voice of the BFG and Amanda Root as the voice of Sophie. It has also been adapted as a theatre performance. A theatrical Disney live-action adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg was released in 2016. As of 2009, the novel has sold 37 million copies, with more than 1 million copies sold around the world every year. ''The BFG'' is a 1989 British animated fantasy adventure film produced by Cosgrove Hall Films and Nelvana, based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. It was directed by Brian Cosgrove and written by John Hambley. The film was first shown on 25 December 1989 on ITV in the United Kingdom. The film was dedicated to animator George Jackson, who had worked on numerous Cosgrove Hall productions prior to his death in 1986. This film is also the last role of Ballard Berkeley (the voice of the Head of the Army), who died in 1988. ''The BFG'' (titled onscreen as ''Roald Dahl's The BFG'') is a 2016 fantasy adventure film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Melissa Mathison (her final film before her 2015 death) and based on Roald Dahl's 1982 novel of the same name. The BFG ("Big Fucking Gun") is a fictional weapon found in many video games, mostly in id Software-developed series' such as ''Doom'' and '' Quake''. The abbreviation BFG stands for "Big Fucking Gun" as described in Tom Hall's original ''Doom'' design document and in the user manual of '' Doom II: Hell on Earth''. The ''Quake II'' manual says it stands for "Big, Uh, Freakin' Gun". This euphemistic label implies the more profane name of the BFG. Another version of the name used in the ''Doom'' motion picture is "Bio Force Gun". The versions found in the ''Doom'' games are called "BFG 9000" and those in ''Quake'' "BFG 10K". Bunchofuckingoofs, or the BFGs, was an infamous Canadian hardcore punk band from Toronto's Kensington Market neighbourhood, formed in November 1983. From July 1983 to July 1988, they ran a 24/7 boozecan at their Baldwin Street address known on the street as "Fort Goof". For another three and half years they continued their antics at the 26A Oxford Street warehouse (Goof World). They lived communally and, while they were known for smashing TVs on stage and opening bottles of beer with chainsaws, they described themselves as anti-drug crusaders, community activists and the neighbourhood police force. British Forces Germany (''BFG'') was the generic name for the three services of the British Armed Forces, made up of service personnel, UK Civil Servants, and dependents (family members), based in Germany. It was established following the Second World War, the largest parts of it becoming known as the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) and RAF Germany (RAFG). It was the largest concentration of British armed forces permanently stationed outside the United Kingdom. Blast furnace gas (BFG) is a by-product of blast furnaces that is generated when the iron ore is reduced with coke to metallic iron. It has a very low heating value, about 93 BTU/cubic foot (3.5 MJ/m3), because it consists of about 51 vol% nitrogen and 22 vol% carbon dioxide, which are not flammable. The rest amounts to around 22 vol% carbon monoxide, which has a fairly low heating value already and 5 vol% hydrogen. Per ton of steel produced via the blast furnace route, 2.5 to 3.5 ton of blast furnace gas is produced. It is commonly used as a fuel within the steel works, but it can be used in boilers and power plants equipped to burn it. Bullfrog Basin Airport
Bullfrog Basin is one of the National Park Service recreation sites of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area of Kane County, Utah, United States, adjoining Lake Powell. It encompasses Bullfrog Basin Airport , the Bullfrog Resort and Marina, the Bullfrog terminus of the Charles Hall Ferry, and a campground. It is nearby the 1970s mining town Ticaboo. The National Park Lodge in the site is named Defiance House Lodge. Built on a bluff that overlooks the Bullfrog Bay part of Lake Powell, it is a stucco building with several adjoining prefabricated units.
