BC Titebi Tbilisi ( ka, საკალათბურთო კლუბი ტიტები) is the Georgian professional basketball club, that is based in Tbilisi, Georgia. The club competes in the Georgian basketball Super Liga. History The club was established by the Georgian basketball players and Georgia national basketball team members Giorgi Gamqrelidze and Besik Lezhava in 2016. In 2018, the club was promoted to the Superliga after beating Sokhumi in the promotion/relegation playoffs. In 2019, Titebi won the Georgian Cup after beating Mgzavrebi in the Finals 95-85, becoming the first team in Georgian basketball history to achieve this feat in their first season in the top flight of Georgian Basketball. Georgian Superliga
The Georgian Basketball Super League ( ka, საკალათბურთო სუპერლიგა, Sakalatburto Superliga), also known as the Georgian Top League, is the highest professional basketball league in Georgia. The first season was played in 1991, and was won by Dinamo Tbilisi. The 1990s were dominated by BC Vita Tbilisi, who won the title a record 7 times. BC Batumi, and then Energy Invest Rustavi, dominated the following decade. More recently, the league was dominated by clubs attached to State departments, with first BC Armia (Ministry of Defense) establishing themselves as the country's leading club, and later BC MIA Academy (Ministry of Internal Affairs) winning the title. 2013/14 was the first season when none of the country's universities were represented in the Superliga. BC Armia
BC Mgzavrebi ( ka, საკალათბურთო კლუბი არმია), also known as Mgzavrebi Tbilisi, is a professional basketball club based in Tbilisi, that plays in the Georgian Super Liga. The club was affiliated to the Georgian Ministry of Defense. History Armia traces its roots to the first army sports club of Tbilisi, which was formed in 1937 and went on to win the USSR basketball championship twice, in 1944 and 1946. A reformed Army Sports Club (ASK) then participated in the Georgian national championship for three seasons, between 1996 and 1999. The current club was re-established in 2010, and made its debut in the Superliga on November 6 of that year. Coached by Levan Moseshvili, they established themselves as the strongest team in the country straight away, winning the championship title by defeating TSU Tbilisi 3-1 in the play-off finals.
