BC Thunder
The BC Thunder is a ringette team in the National Ringette League's (NRL) Western Conference. The team is based in Richmond, British Columbia, Richmond, British Columbia. Team history The Thunder were founded as the Lower Mainland Ringette League Thunder (LMRL Thunder) in 2011, and joined the NRL that year. The league took over operating the Fraser Valley Avalanche when private owner Bill Bettles ceased operations. The team was then run by the Lower Mainland Ringette League, a league based in Burnaby, and the Thunder practiced and played throughout the Greater Vancouver, Vancouver area. As a result of the work the Fraser Valley Avalanche did in recruitment, the Thunder's first season was highly successful. Richmond is a coastal city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada. Ringette Teams
Ringette is a non-contact winter team sport played on ice hockey rinks using ice hockey skates, straight sticks with drag-tips, and a blue, rubber, pneumatic ring designed for use on ice surfaces. The sport is among a small number of organized team sports created exclusively for female competitors. Though ice hockey rinks are used, ringette rinks use markings specific to ringette and the sport uses strategic play which more closely resembles basketball than ice hockey. The sport was created in Canada for girls in 1963 by Sam Jacks from West Ferris, Ontario and Red McCarthy from Espanola, Ontario. In 2018, over 50,000 players registered to play the sport. Ringette is played predominantly in Canada and Finland with both countries forming the sport's top international teams on a regular basis. 2019 World Ringette Championships
The 2019 World Ringette Championships (WRC) was an international ringette tournament contested in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada from November 25 - December 1st, 2019. The main competition took place at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. This event marked the 13th World Ringette Championships. All WRC events are organized by the International Ringette Federation (IRF). The games were recorded and live streamed by Sports Canada TV and have since been made available for public viewing on the video sharing site, YouTube, by Ringette Canada. Fifteen of the games were live-streamed online and made available for public viewing. Montréal Mission
The Montréal Mission is a ringette team in the National Ringette League (NRL), competing in the White Division of the Eastern Conference. The team was founded in 2004. The team gathers its players from the region of Montreal, Montréal, Quebec, Québec, and plays its home games at Centre Étienne Desmarteau. The "Mission" is one of the NRL's most successful teams from Quebec. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team did not compete in the NRL Championships. In the past the Mission also competed against Bourassa Royal before that NRL team was discontinued. The National Ringette League (NRL), ''(french: Ligue Nationale de Ringuette, LNR)'', is the premier sports league for the sport of ringette in North America and Canada's national league for elite ringette players aged 18+. All of the NRL's elite athletes are women, one of ringette's distinctive features. The NRL is a semi-professional league which operates as a showcase league for the sport and is the first and only winter team sports league in North America whose entire elite athlete roster involves players who are women rather than men. The league's inaugural year was in November of 2004 and had completed seventeen seasons of play by the end of the 2021-22 season. Sudden Death (sport)
In a sport or game, sudden death (also sudden-death, sudden-death overtime, or a sudden-death round) is a form of competition where play ends as soon as one competitor is ahead of the others, with that competitor becoming the winner. Sudden death is typically used as a tiebreaker when a contest is tied at the end of regulation (normal) playing time or the completion of the normal playing task. An alternative tiebreaker method to sudden death is to play an extra, shortened segment of the game. In association football 30 minutes of extra time (overtime) after 90 minutes of normal time, or in golf one playoff round (18 holes) after four standard rounds (72 holes) are two alternatives.
