BC Rustavi
BC Rustavi ( ka, საკალათბურთო კლუბი რუსთავი) is a professional basketball club based in the city of Rustavi, Georgia. The club competes in the Georgian Superliga, and plays its home games in the Rustavi sports arena. History The club was founded in 1991 as BC Azoti, and began competing in the newly established Georgian national league. It is one of only 2 clubs (the other being Dinamo Tbilisi) to have participated in the league continuously throughout its existence. Rustavi challenged for high positions in the league on a consistent basis, and recorded numerous top 3 finishes, always falling short of winning trophies. The club's fortunes changed in 2006, when it acquired major sponsorship from the investment company 'Energy Invest'. The Georgian Basketball Super League ( ka, საკალათბურთო სუპერლიგა, Sakalatburto Superliga), also known as the Georgian Top League, is the highest professional basketball league in Georgia. The first season was played in 1991, and was won by Dinamo Tbilisi. The 1990s were dominated by BC Vita Tbilisi, who won the title a record 7 times. BC Batumi, and then Energy Invest Rustavi, dominated the following decade. More recently, the league was dominated by clubs attached to State departments, with first BC Armia (Ministry of Defense) establishing themselves as the country's leading club, and later BC MIA Academy (Ministry of Internal Affairs) winning the title. 2013/14 was the first season when none of the country's universities were represented in the Superliga. Rustavi ( ka, რუსთავი ) is a city in the southeast of Georgia, in the region of Kvemo Kartli and southeast of capital Tbilisi. BC Dinamo Tbilisi ( ka, საკალათბურთო კლუბი ,,დინამო’’) is a professional basketball club that is based in Tbilisi, that plays in the Georgian Superliga. It is one of the oldest and most successful basketball clubs of Georgia and the former USSR, having won numerous national titles and the 1962 FIBA European Champions Cup ( EuroLeague). Craig Osaikhwuwuomwan (born October 12, 1990) is a Dutch professional basketball player who last played for Armex Děčín. He is a tall and usually plays the center position. Osaikhwuwuomwan is a former member of the Dutch national basketball team. Professional career On August 3, 2010, Craig signed his first professional contract with ABC Amsterdam in the DBL.
