BC Kalev
BC Kalev, known as BC Kalev/Cramo for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team plays in the Korvpalli Meistriliiga, the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the FIBA Europe Cup. They play their home games at the Kalev Sports Hall and Saku Suurhall. Kalev/Cramo have won 12 Estonian Championships, 8 Estonian Cups and 1 Latvian-Estonian Basketball League title. History Early years (1998–2005) Founded in 1998, the club started out as Canon ENM. Coached by Allan Dorbek the team joined top-tier Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) for the 1998–99 season. Korvpalli Meistriliiga
The Korvpalli Meistriliiga ( en, Basketball Champions League), known as the OlyBet Korvpalli Meistriliiga for sponsorship reasons, is the highest tier level and most important professional basketball league in Estonia. It is controlled by the Estonian Basketball Association. The first Estonian Basketball Championship tournament was held in 1925. During Soviet era (1941–1991) the league was called the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic Championship. After Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the league was reformed as the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). The KML, which is played under FIBA rules, currently consists of eight teams. The current KML champions are Pärnu who won their first Estonian Championship in the 2022 KML Play-offs. University of Tartu basketball team ( et, link=no, Tartu Ülikooli korvpallimeeskond ), for sponsorship reasons known as Tartu Ülikool Maks & Moorits, is a professional basketball team based in Tartu, Estonia. The team plays in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. They play their home games at the University of Tartu Sports Hall. Founded in 1937 as division of the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, the team have won a record 26 Estonian Championships, a record 17 Estonian Cups and one Soviet Championship. Valmo Kriisa
Valmo Kriisa (born 18 May 1974 in Pärnu, Estonia) is an Estonian former professional basketball player. He played at the point guard and shooting guard positions. Kriisa started his senior club career with "KK Tartu" team (Tartu Ülikool/Rock) in 1990 and after 96–97 season he moved to "Nybit". He spent the 2000–01 season in Sweden with Södertälje BBK. Then Kriisa returned to Estonia, signed for two seasons with "BC Kalev" and won the Estonian Championship titles in 2002 and 2003. On seasons 2003–2006 he played for the Dutch Eredivisie team Hanzevast Capitals. During this period he won the Dutch Championship in 2004. After three seasons in The Netherlands, Kriisa came back to Estonia and joined BC Kalev/Cramo. He spent three seasons with Kalev winning one Estonian Championship. 2006–07 KML Season
The 2006–07 SEB Korvpalli Meistriliiga was the 16th season of the Estonian basketball league and the third under the title sponsorship of SEB. Including the competition's previous incarnations, this was the 82nd season of the Estonian men's basketball league. Tallinna Kalev/Cramo came into the season as defending champions of the 2005–06 KML season. The season started on 4 October 2006 and concluded on 29 May 2007 with TÜ/Rock defeating Tallinna Kalev/Cramo 4 games to 2 in the 2007 KML Finals to win their 23rd Estonian League title. Veselin Matić ( sr-cyrl, Веселин Матић; born July 21, 1960) also known by his nickname Toza, is a Serbian professional basketball coach. He is currently the head coach of India men's national basketball team. Personal life His son, Andrija Matić, is also a basketball player who played for American University and plays now for Keiser University. FIBA EuroCup
FIBA EuroChallenge (called the FIBA Europe League in 2003–05, and FIBA EuroCup in 2005–08) was the 3rd-tier level transnational men's professional continental club basketball competition in Europe, from 2003 to 2015. It was organized and run by FIBA Europe. 2005–06 FIBA EuroCup
The 2005–06 FIBA EuroCup was the 3rd season of the FIBA EuroCup, the third-strongest pan-European club basketball competition. A total number of 32 teams from 20 countries participated in competition. The season finished with the EuroCup Final Four, which was held in Kyiv, Ukraine. Joventut Badalona won the cup after defeating BC Khimki 88–63 in the final. Format A number of 32 teams were split into 8 groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group advanced to the next stage, where they were split into new four groups of four. The top two teams in each group in the second group stage advanced to the Quarter-Final, which was played in a Best-of-three playoff system. Aivar Kuusmaa
Aivar Kuusmaa (born 12 June 1967) is an Estonian basketball coach and former professional basketball player who played mostly at the shooting guard position. He won the USSR Premier Basketball League in 1991 as a member of the Tallinn Kalev basketball team. Kuusmaa mostly played in Estonia, but he also spent three seasons in Greece, with Panathinaikos and one season in Belgium, with Liege Basket. Also, during the service in the Soviet Army, Kuusmaa was stationed in Latvian SSR and played in the local army sports club Rīgas ASK. After retiring in 2005 he has been coaching BC Kalev/Cramo (2005–2007 & 2010–2012), TTÜ KK (2007–2010) and AVIS Utilitas Rapla (2014–2018). Kuusmaa has also greek citizenship under the surname Magoulas. Elected to the Hall of fame of Estonian basketball in 2020.
