BBC Own It
The BBC Own It is a British information site designed to protect and support children using the Internet. While the BBC Own It app has been retired, the Own It website still provides online safety advice to children, parents and teachers. As part of the BBC's partnership with Internet Matters, the not-for-profit contributes to content on the BBC Own It website. History In 2016, The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge established The Royal Foundation Taskforce on the Prevention of Cyberbullying. The BBC Own It App work began in 2017 in response to a call for action from the Taskforce. In December 2017, the BBC launched Own It. In November 2018, work on the BBC Own It App was announced by Prince William. In September 2019, the BBC Own It App was launched into the AppStore and Google Play. In 2022, the app was retired. Internet Matters
Internet Matters is a not-for-profit organisation based in London, England. Launched in May 2014 by the United Kingdom's largest internet service providers BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, the organisation offers child internet safety advice to parents, carers and professionals. The organisation partners with industry leaders and experts to create safer online spaces for children. Partnerships often include joint projects in research and general online safety. Internet Matters is often compared to Common Sense Media, NSPCC, and Childnet because of the similar work they do. History Internet Matters was launched on 13 May 2014 with a launch event at the Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green, London attended by guests including Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Janet Ellis and industry experts including Sonia Livingstone. The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales is a charity which supports the work of the Prince and Princess of Wales. History Originally named The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, the foundation was set up in September 2009 to enable Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry to take forward their charitable ambitions. Catherine Middleton (now Princess of Wales) and Meghan Markle (now Duchess of Sussex) later joined as patrons of the Foundation in 2011 and 2018 upon marriage.
