B. D. Rampala
Bamunusinghearachchige Don Rampala (14 November 1910 – 20 June 1994), (popularly known as B. D. Rampala) was chief mechanical engineer and later general manager of Sri Lanka Railways. He was the first native Sri Lankan to hold the post of chief mechanical engineer. In 1956, the Institution of Locomotive Engineers in London recognised Rampala as the finest diesel engineer in Asia at the time. Education and training Rampala was born on 14 November 1910 in Pannipitiya Rukmale. He received his education at Kottawa Ananda Maha Vidyalaya (then Kottawa Buddhist Mix School) Nalanda College Colombo & Ananda College Colombo. Pannipitiya
Pannipitiya ( si, පන්නිපිටිය, ta, பன்னிபிட்டிய) is a suburb of Colombo. It is an area in Colombo District, Sri Lanka and is located about from the commercial capital. Pannipitiya is subdivided into a number of smaller areas. Areas in Pannipitiya *Pannipitiya Junction - Junction which connects the Borella Road with the Old Road. Amara Hewamadduma
Amara Hewamadduma, also Amara Hēvāmadduma (5 September 1939 – 27 June 2013) was a Sri Lankan government agent, literary figure and historian. Biography Hewamadduma was born the tenth of twelve children on 5 September 1939 in Matara, Sri Lanka. He attended Rahula College in Matara and the University of Peradeniya. He was then a lecturer at an academy for boys, Sri Lanka Vidyalaya, Maradana and the associated school for girls, Chandralekha Mawatha, Borella, where he met his wife. He joined the army and was made full lieutenant in 1964. In 1965, he became the Assistant Commissioner of Agrarian Services in the Ministry of Agriculture, having joined the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. In 1977, he became the Government Agent of Anuradhapura and three years later became Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board. Centralized traffic control (CTC) is a form of railway signalling that originated in North America. CTC consolidates train routing decisions that were previously carried out by local signal operators or the train crews themselves. The system consists of a centralized train dispatcher's office that controls railroad interlockings and traffic flows in portions of the rail system designated as CTC territory. One hallmark of CTC is a control panel with a graphical depiction of the railroad. On this panel, the dispatcher can keep track of trains' locations across the territory that the dispatcher controls. Railway signalling (), also called railroad signaling (), is a system used to control the movement of railway traffic. Trains move on fixed rails, making them uniquely susceptible to collision. This susceptibility is exacerbated by the enormous weight and inertia of a train, which makes it difficult to quickly stop when encountering an obstacle.
