B. Michael Watson
B. Michael Watson (born July 3, 1949) is a bishop of The United Methodist Church, elected in 2000. He served as resident bishop of the North Georgia Annual Conference, which comprises 1,000 churches, more than 1,500 clergy members, and more than 320,000 lay members. He retired in 2016 and currently serves as ecumenical officer of the Council of Bishops. Education Watson received a bachelor of science degree in finance and real estate from the University of Alabama, a master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology and a doctor of ministry degree from Vanderbilt University. Ordained ministry Prior to his election to the episcopacy, Watson served as a pastor in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church. Bishop
A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. In Christianity, bishops are normally responsible for the governance of dioceses. The role or office of bishop is called episcopacy. Organizationally, several Christian denominations utilize ecclesiastical structures that call for the position of bishops, while other denominations have dispensed with this office, seeing it as a symbol of power. The Upper Room (United Methodist Church)
The Upper Room is a Christian organization that publishes books and magazines and that produces programs to support the spiritual life of Christians around the world. The Upper Room is best known for ''The Upper Room'' daily devotional, which is published in 35 languages and is available in more than 100 countries. Other publications include devozine for teens and ''Pockets'' for children. Programs include The Walk to Emmaus and The Academy for Spiritual Formation. Young Harris College is a private Methodist-affiliated liberal arts college in Young Harris, Georgia, United States. History Origins The school was founded in 1886 by Artemas Lester, a circuit-riding Methodist minister who wanted to provide the residents of the Appalachian Mountains with an education. The college was funded in part by production from an agricultural program, or college farm. Students who could not afford education were allowed to work on the farm to earn tuition. Originally known as McTyeire Institute for the small village where the school was located, the college struggled for the first year until an Athens judge, Young L.G. Harris, donated enough money to keep the school open. Wesleyan College is a private, liberal arts women's college in Macon, Georgia. Founded in 1836, Wesleyan was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women.
