B. M. Gafoor
B. M. Gafoor (4 May 1942 – 13 November 2003) was an Indian cartoonist and comic artist. He was one of the most prominent cartoonists from Kerala and was one of the founders of Kerala Cartoon Academy. Within a career of more than three decades, he created some of the most popular comics including the social satire ''Kunjamman''. Early life A native of Tellicherry, Gafoor was a student at St. Joseph's High School, Calicut when M.V. Devan began teaching him painting. He was exposed to another prominent painter, K. C. S. Paniker when he attended the Madras School of Arts and Crafts, where Paniker served as principal. Career Gafoor served as a cartoonist for many publications, including the '' Chandrika'', ''Shankar's Weekly'', ''Deshabhimani'' and ''Cut Cut'', before settling down for the remainder of his career at ''Mathrubhumi''. Tellicherry
Thalassery (), formerly Tellicherry, is a municipality, Commercial City on the Malabar Coast in Kannur district, in the state of Kerala, India, bordered by the districts of Mahé (Pondicherry), Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod and Kodagu (Karnataka). Thalassery municipality has a population just under 100,000. Thalassery Heritage City has an area of . Thalassery is situated in an altitude ranging from 2.5m to 30m above mean sea-level. Tintumon is a joke character, the Malayali equivalent of Little Johnny. This character was created and spread like a viral phenomenon through text messages in mobile phones. Later, the popularity increased to such an extent that leading bookmakers also published books on Tintumon jokes. The character was originally created by noted cartoonist B. M. Gafoor. It is telecasted as a cartoon serial in Jeevan TV. But before that, a brat named Tintu first appeared in the 1983 film ''Ente Mamattukkuttiyammakku'', popularising the name among Malayali diaspora.
