B. J. Da Rocha
Bernard Joao da Rocha (16 May 1927 – 23 February 2010) was a founding member and the first National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. He was also the first Ghanaian Director of the Ghana School of Law. Education B. J. Da Rocha was born in Cape Coast, Ghana, where he had his secondary education at Adisadel College. Career He lectured at the Ghana School of Law for almost two decades before retiring in 1992 as the first Ghanaian Legal Director of Education. He also served as the General Secretary of the Progress Party led by Kofi Abrefa Busia. Honor In 1993, the Ghana Bar Association honored da Rocha for his contribution to the legal profession. Cape Coast
Cape Coast is a city, fishing port, and the capital of Cape Coast Metropolitan District and Central Region of Ghana. It is one of the country's most historic cities, a World Heritage Site, home to the Cape Coast Castle, with the Gulf of Guinea situated to its south. Ghana School Of Law
The Ghana School of Law (GSL) is an educational institution in Ghana for training lawyers. The school is the only one that provides training for law graduates in the Barrister at Law program. The Professional Law Course is designed for Law Graduates who have obtained an LLB degree and have passed the entrance examination. On completion of this course the graduate is qualified to practice law in Ghana. Until the Ghana School of Law was established in 1958, all lawyers in Ghana were trained abroad, almost always at the Inns of Court in England. By convention all lawyers admitted to practice in Ghana become automatic members of the Ghana Bar Association. Progress Party (Ghana)
The Progress Party (PP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Second Republic (1969–1972). In the 29 August 1969 elections, the PP won 105 of the National Assembly's 140 seats. The party was co-founded in 1969 by Kofi Abrefa Busia, who was born as a Bono prince in the traditional kingdom of Wenchi, and by Lawyer Sylvester Kofi Williams, who was born as an Ahanta prince, and a descendant of the Ahanta King Badu Bonsu II. Kofi Abrefa Busia led the Party, and became the 2nd Prime Minister on 3 September 1969. Kofi Abrefa Busia
Kofi Abrefa Busia (born 11 July 1913 – 28 August 1978) was a Ghanaian political leader and academic who was Prime Minister of Ghana from 1969 to 1972. As a nationalist leader and prime minister, he helped to restore civilian government to the country following military rule. Early life and education Busia was born a Bono prince in the traditional kingdom of Wenchi, in the Brong Ahafo Region, one of the four Gold Coast Territories, then under British rule and now called Ghana. He was educated at Methodist School, Wenchi, Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast, then at Wesley College, Kumasi, from 1931 to 1932. He taught at Wesley College and left to study at Achimota College in 1935 and taught there. He gained his first degree with Honours in Medieval and Modern History from the University of London, through correspondence during this period. The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is a professional association of lawyers in Ghana, including what used to be called solicitors and barristers but are now called legal practitioners, as well as magistrates. By convention all lawyers admitted to practice in Ghana become automatic members of the association.
