B.C. VITA Tbilisi is a professional basketball team based in Tbilisi, Georgia. Home games of the club are played in the Tbilisi Sports Palace, which has a capacity of 9,700 people. The club currently plays in the A-Liga, the second tier of basketball in Georgia. History During the '90s VITA dominated the Georgian Superliga, and won 6 consecutive championships from 1993 through 1998. In the 2015–16 season, they entered the VTB United League. Tbilisi Sports Palace
Tbilisi Sport Palace ( ka, თბილისის სპორტის სასახლე) is an indoor sports arena situated in Tbilisi, Georgia. The arena usually hosts basketball, handball, judo, tennis, boxing and other games and tournaments with high attendance. History Built in 1961, the arena was used primely for the basketball games of local Dinamo Tbilisi and is still the largest basketball designed arena in all of the former USSR successor states. The construction was led by architects Vladimir Aleksi-Meskhishvili, Yuri Kasradze, Temo Japaridze and designer David Kajaia. The arena was renovated in 2007 and was reopened on 22 August 2007, with management rights given to the Logic Group Ltd for a 30-year contract. This was the first phase of renovation and reconstruction, with the second phase including changing the roof of the building and installing new individual seats. The Georgian Basketball Super League ( ka, საკალათბურთო სუპერლიგა, Sakalatburto Superliga), also known as the Georgian Top League, is the highest professional basketball league in Georgia. The first season was played in 1991, and was won by Dinamo Tbilisi. The 1990s were dominated by BC Vita Tbilisi, who won the title a record 7 times. BC Batumi, and then Energy Invest Rustavi, dominated the following decade. VTB United League (russian: Единая Лига ВТБ) is an international professional men's club basketball list of basketball leagues, league that was founded in 2008. It is made up of mostly Russian clubs, along with one each from Belarus and Kazakhstan.
