Azim Premji University
Azim Premji University is an Indian, non-profit, private university, located in Bangalore, Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was established by the Azim Premji University Act (2010) and recognised by the University Grants Commission (India), University Grants Commission under Section 2F. Its stated purpose is Education for Social Change'.'' The university started offering postgraduate programmes in 2011 and undergraduate programmes in 2015 along with a host of other short-term diplomas and certificate courses. Its mandate is to run teaching programmes and conduct research to contribute to the social sector in India and to be an exemplar higher education institution demonstrating inclusion and quality. Azim Hashim Premji (born 24 July 1945) is an Indian businessman, investor, engineer, and philanthropist, who was the chairman of Wipro Limited. Premji remains a non-executive member of the board and founder chairman. He is informally known as the Czar of the Indian IT Industry. University Grants Commission (India)
University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body set up by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognized universities and colleges. The headquarters are in New Delhi, and it has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore.
