Azerbaijani Canadians
Azerbaijani Canadians ( az, Kanadalı azərbaycanlılar) are Canadians, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of ethnic Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijani background, or those who were born in Azerbaijan. Most Azerbaijani-Canadians have immigrated to Canada from the Azerbaijan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia or Turkey. Demographics According to the Canada 2021 Census, 9,915 Canadians claimed ethnic Azerbaijani background, with nearly half living in Ontario. Greater Toronto
The Greater Toronto Area, commonly referred to as the GTA, includes the City of Toronto and the regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel, and York. In total, the region contains 25 urban, suburban, and rural municipalities. Bilateral relations exist between Azerbaijan and Canada. Both nations are members of the United Nations. Background On October 18, 1991, the Azerbaijani parliament adopted a constitutional act recognizing the independence of Azerbaijan. Middle Eastern Canadians are Canadians who were either born in or can trace their ancestry to the Middle East, which includes Western Asia and North Africa. West Asian Canadians, officially known as West Central Asian and Middle Eastern Canadians are Canadians who were either born in or can trace their ancestry to West Asia and Central Asia. The term West Asian Canadian is a subgroup of Asian Canadians and Middle Eastern Canadians. Network Of Azerbaijani Canadians
The Network of Azerbaijani Canadians (NAC, french: Réseau des Canadiens Azerbaïdjanais, az, Kanadalı Azərbaycanlılar Şəbəkəsi) is a fully community-funded and the largest grassroots Azerbaijani advocacy organization in Canada. Founded in 2020, the organization advocates on behalf of Azerbaijani Canadians in matters of public policy. The organization is based in Toronto; board members and organization members are spread across Canada including Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver. Feridun Hamdullahpur
Feridun Hamdullahpur (born ) is the chancellor of International Business University. Previously, he was the president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo. Hamdullahpur was named the sixth president of the University of Waterloo in March 2011. Hamdullahpur's term ended on July 1, 2021, when his successor, Vivek Goel, took office. Early life Hamdullahpur was born in Turkey to an Iranian Azerbaijani father and a Turkish mother. He is the youngest of five brothers. His businessman father, Nasri, died of liver disease before Hamdullahpur turned one. His mother, Merziye, raised her five sons in Turkey. He moved from Turkey to Nova Scotia in 1981 where he met his wife, Cathy. Cathy was 21, a fourth-year nursing student at Dalhousie University. Reza Moridi ( fa, رضا مریدی; born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2007 to 2018 who represented the riding of Richmond Hill. He served as a cabinet minister in the government of Kathleen Wynne.
