Azerbaijan originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song " Cleopatra" written by Luuk van Beers, Alan Roy Scott and Sarah Lake. Samira Efendi
Samira Azer gizi Efendiyeva (; born 17 April 1991), known as Samira Efendi or Efendi, is an Azerbaijani singer. She represented Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Mata Hari". Career Early career Efendiyeva gained popularity in her home country after participating in the singing competitions ''Yeni Ulduz'' (2009), '' Böyük Səhnə'' (2014) and '' The Voice of Azerbaijan'' (2015-2016, third place). In 2017, she was the Azerbaijani representative in the international singing competition ''Silk Way Star'', staged in Almaty, Kazakhstan, finishing in third place. "Always" is a song by Azerbaijani singer Aysel Teymurzadeh (performing as Aysel) and Swedish-Iranian singersongwriter Arash Labaf (performing mononymously). It was the entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. The song was selected by Ictimai TV (İTV), the Azerbaijani broadcaster, among the 30 songs submitted to the broadcaster in an open call. The song was composed by a group of songwriters including Arash. The video clip for the song was directed by Swedish director and premiered on Ictimai TV on 24 April 2009.
