Axel Camillo Eitzen (1851–1937)
Axel Camillo Eitzen (30 January 1851 – 1937) was a Norwegian ship-owner. He was born in Drøbak as a son of postmaster Johan Laur. Eitzen and Cecilia Catharina Cappelen. In 1879 he married ship-owner's daughter Caroline Johanne Hansen. He finished school in Sarpsborg Sarpsborg ( or ), historically Borg, is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. He became a shipmaster and worked as such until 1890. From then he was a full-time ship-owner and shipbroker. In 1883 he had founded the company Camillo Eitzen, which grew to a major corporation. Drøbak
Drøbak is a List of cities in Norway, town and the centre of the municipality of Frogn, in Viken county, Norway. The city is located along the Oslofjord, and has 13,409 inhabitants. History Drøbak and Frogn was established as a parish on its own through a royal decree on 8 September 1823. It had been a part of Ås parish. Drøbak was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was merged with Frogn on 1 January 1962. Traditionally, Drøbak was the winter harbour of Norway's capital, Oslo, since in severe winters the fjord will freeze from outside Drøbak all the way up to Oslo. It had city status between 1842 and 1962, upon which point the municipality was merged into the rural municipality Frogn and lost its city status. Cappelen (family)
Cappelen is a Germans, German-origined Norwegian family. Johan von Cappelen immigrated to Norway in 1653, and became bailiff in Lier, Norway, Lier. A number of his descendants were businessmen, land owners, civil servants and politicians. The family is especially known for the former publishing company J.W. Cappelens Forlag. Variants of the name Cappelen are also used throughout Germany by many other families. Sarpsborg ( or ), historically Borg, is a city and municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Sarpsborg. Sarpsborg is part of the fifth largest urban area in Norway when paired with neighbouring Fredrikstad. As of 1 January 2018, according to Statistics Norway these two municipalities have a total population of 136,127 with 55,840 in Sarpsborg and 81,278 in Fredrikstad. Eitzen Group was a shipping and investment corporation based in Oslo, Norway. The parent company was Eitzen Holding AS and was entirely owned by the Eitzen family which owns Eitzen Invest and 53.7% of Camillo Eitzen & Co. The investment company owned a portfolio of real estate and other investments, including Hydranor and a major share of Norse Energy as well as in the fishing industry. The Nordisk Defence Club ( no, Nordisk Skibsrederforening) is the world’s largest independent FD&D club, and is operating worldwide. It was established in Copenhagen in 1889 and moved to Oslo in 1891. The invitation to Nordisk's founding meeting in Copenhagen said the purpose of the association would be “to work in the interest of shipping”. A key reason for its establishment was to organize shipowners in a common effort to avoid unreasonable charterparty clauses imposed by charterers in the prevailing poor market. This included working to develop standardized charter parties. One of the documents Nordisk worked on was the Baltcon charterparty, which became the first document of BIMCO in 1908. Axel Camillo Eitzen (27 July 1883 – 1 November 1968) was a Norwegian ship-owner. He was born in Tønsberg as a son of ship-owner Axel Camillo Eitzen and Caroline Johanne Hansen (1857–1911). In 1911 he married Frida Falch, a daughter of a pharmacist in Larvik. He finished secondary education in 1901, and then embarked on lengthy commercial studies in England, Germany, France and Belgium. In 1914 he became a co-owner in the family company Camillo Eitzen & Co., founded in 1883 and since growing to a major corporation. It was renamed to Tschudi & Eitzen in 1936. His brother Johan emigrated to Uruguay to pursue enterprises there.
