Janaraja Padakkama
The Janaraja Padakkama ("Republic Medal") was awarded to police officers in Sri Lanka who were in service on 22 May 1972, when Ceylon became a republic. Sri Lanka Police Weeratha Padakkama
The Sri Lanka Police Weeratha Padakkama ("Sri Lanka Police Police Gallantry Medal") is awarded to police officers in Sri Lanka for gallantry or brave performance of duty. It is awarded by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The medal replaced the Ceylon Police Medal for Gallantry which was awarded until Ceylon became a Republic in 1972. Colonial Police Long Service Medal
The Colonial Police Long Service Medal was established in 1934 to recognise long service in the police forces of the colonies and overseas territories of the United Kingdom. On 10 April 2012 the medal became known as the Overseas Territories Police Long Service Medal. History The medal was originally established on 23 March 1934 as the ''Colonial Police and Fire Brigade Long Service Medal''. A new Royal Warrant issued on 21 March 1956 provided for separate Colonial Police and Fire Brigade medals under their own warrants, with the name of medal changing to ''Colonial Police Long Service Medal''. The name was again changed in 2012 to the ''Overseas Territories Police Long Service Medal''. Ceylon Police Long Service Medal
The Ceylon Police Long Service Medal was awarded to police officers in Ceylon of and below the rank of Chief Inspector for completing 18 years of unblemished service. Bars for 25 and 30 years service were also awarded. The medal was established in August 1950 to replace the Colonial Police Long Service Medal. It was itself replaced by the Deergha Sewa Padakkama when Ceylon became a Republic in 1972. Circular and made of cupronickel, the medal has the sovereign's effigy of the obverse, (George V until 1953, then Elizabeth II). The reverse bears the image of an elephant, surrounded by the description, "Ceylon Police Service. For Long Service and Good Conduct." It has a straight bar suspension for the ribbon. A silver medal of similar design had been instituted in 1925 to reward 15 years active service with the Ceylon Police. The Ceylon Police Medal was awarded to police officers of the Ceylon Police Force, with two versions: for gallantry and for meritorious service. The number of medals for meritorious service was limited to a maximum of ten a year. The medals were established in August 1950 to replace the Colonial Police Medal. They were themselves replaced by the Sri Lanka Police Weeratha Padakkama for gallantry and Sri Lanka Police Vishishta Seva Padakkama for meritorious service when Ceylon became a republic in 1972. Circular and made of silver, the medals have the sovereign's effigy of the obverse, (George VI until 1953, then Elizabeth II). The reverse bears the image of an elephant with, above, the wording "Ceylon Police Service" and, below, either "For Gallantry" or "For Merit", as appropriate. United Nations Mission In Liberia
The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) was a peacekeeping operation established in September 2003 to monitor a ceasefire agreement in Liberia following the resignation of President Charles Taylor and the conclusion of the Second Liberian Civil War (1999–2003). At its peak it consisted of up to 15,000 U.N. military personnel and 1,115 police officers, along with civilian political advisors and aid workers. UNMIL superseded the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL), which had been established in 1993 to support the peacekeeping efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during the First Liberian Civil War (1989–1996). United Nations Mission Of Support To East Timor
The United Nations Mission of Support to East Timor (UNMISET) lasted from 20 May 2002 to 20 May 2005, when it was replaced by United Nations Office in Timor Leste (UNOTIL). It was established when East Timor became an internationally recognised independent state and the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) came to an end. Military and police forces from contributing nations were put under control of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General. Following a progress report submitted by the Secretary-General in 2003, the initial 12 month mandate was extended into two years, subsequently extended to 20 May 2005, after which it was replaced by United Nations Office in Timor Leste (UNOTIL).
