Avtandil Beridze
Avef Beridze ( ka, ავთანდილ ბერიძე; 11 January 1955 – 12 November 2020) was a Georgian politician. He was a chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara from 28 October 2012 to 28 November 2016. Beridze is a native of Batumi. Formerly a member of the Republican Party of Georgia, he co-founded the public movement Serve to Georgia, in 2011, together with Murman Dumbadze, who had been dismissed from the Republican Party for his opposition to a planned Turkish-Georgian deal on rebuilding of an Ottoman-era mosque in Batumi. Both Dumbadze and Beridze then joined the Georgian Dream party founded by the tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili to challenge Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement in the October 2012 parliamentary election. Mikheil Makharadze ( ka, მიხეილ მახარაძე) (born November 13, 1946) is a Georgian politician and historian of philosophy, who was the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara from July 20, 2004, to October 28, 2012. Education and academic career Born in a teacher's family in the Khulo district, Adjara, an autonomous republic of then-Soviet Georgia, Makharadze graduated from the Tbilisi State University with a degree in philosophy in 1970. Since then he has been working for the Tbilisi-based Institute of Philosophy, now part of the Ilia State University. In 2000, he became a professor at the Tbilisi State University. He has published several works on the history of philosophy, particularly focusing on the Areopagite, medieval Georgian, and Renaissance philosophy. The Black Sea is a marginal mediterranean sea of the Atlantic Ocean lying between Europe and Asia, east of the Balkans, south of the East European Plain, west of the Caucasus, and north of Anatolia. Legislative elections were held in Adjara, an autonomous republic within Georgia, on October 1, 2012. Adjara elected its 18-member parliament, Supreme Council, in the region's 6th local legislative election since Georgia declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Background The 18-member Supreme Council of Adjara is elected for a 4-year term. Six of its members are elected through the majoritarian contest in single-mandate constituencies and the remaining 12 seats are filled through the proportional contest from those parties or blocs which clear 5% threshold. Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on 1 October, 2012. The opposition Georgian Dream coalition of billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili won a majority of seats. President Mikheil Saakashvili conceded his party's loss.
