The Avondale Heights Football Club is part of a community sports club that operates in the suburb of Avondale Heights. It is located 14 km north west of Melbourne. The sporting club offers its community an outlet to pursue Australian football as well as cricket and netball. The football team plays in the Essendon District Football League. Essendon District Football League
The Essendon District Football League (EDFL) is a professional Australian rules football league competition based in Essendon, Victoria, consisting of teams based in the north-west suburbs of Melbourne. Founded in 1930, the men's competition consists of three leagues: Premier Division, Division 1 and Division 2, with 10 clubs in the Premier Division and Division 1 nine in Division 2. Promotion and relegation between these divisions occurs, with the lowest-placed clubs in the Premier Division and Division 1 being relegated at the end of each season. Clubs which win the Division 1 and Division 2 premierships are automatically promoted. Each men's team also fields a reserves side and an under-19 side that play a fixture mirroring that of the senior side. Since 2017, the League has also run a competition for women's Australian rules football. Brad Lloyd (born 16 September 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Playing career Early playing career Lloyd, a midfielder from Victorian Football League (VFL) side Williamstown, had an impressive 1997 in the Hawthorn reserves and won the Gardiner Medal. Hawthorn Recruited by Hawthorn at the 1997 AFL draft, Lloyd made his senior AFL debut in round two of the 1998 AFL season, when Hawthorn lost to Port Adelaide in Paul Salmon's 250th league game. Lloyd appeared in the last six rounds of the year and played briefly in 1999 but in all could only manage 11 games for the seniors while at Hawthorn and kicked a total of three goals. Avondale Heights is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Moonee Valley local government area. Avondale Heights recorded a population of 12,388 at the 2021 census. Avondale Heights is located on a plateau bounded by a large bend of the Maribyrnong River to the east, south, and west, and to the north by Buckley Street. The suburb derives its name from the ''Avondale Estate''.
