Avinguda De Catalunya, Lleida
Avinguda de Catalunya (Catalan language, Catalan for ''Avenue of Catalonia'') is a thoroughfare in the city of Lleida, Spain. On one end it is a prolongation of Rambla d'Aragó, Lleida, Rambla d'Aragó while on the other it meets Plaça d'Espanya, Lleida, Plaça d'Espanya and the river Segre River, Segre. An extension into the Cappont neighbourhood, on the other side of the river, through the Pont de la Universitat, is underway. Most buildings are relatively recent, and include the infamous Edifici de Sindicats, Edifici dels Sindicats, or Labor Union building, also called the "Ducados building" because of its alleged resemblance to a Ducados (cigarette), Ducados blue cigarette box. Demonstrations in Lleida usually go through Avinguda de Catalunya. The Lleida coach station, a rather urban decay, decayed infrastructure, lies on one of the ends of the avenue as of 2010. Lleida
Lleida (, ; Spanish: Lérida ) is a city in the west of Catalonia, Spain. It is the capital city of the province of Lleida. Geographically, it is located in the Catalan Central Depression. It is also the capital city of the Segrià comarca, as well as the largest city in the province. It had 137,387 inhabitants , including the contiguous towns of Raimat and Sucs. Lleida is one of the oldest towns in Catalonia, with recorded settlements dating back to the Bronze Age period. Rambla d'Aragó () is an important thoroughfare in the '' Universitat'' district of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. Originally a rambla with a pedestrianised area complete with a marketplace and a service of trams, it underwent several changes and is now a regular street crossed by cars. The Segre ( or ; french: Sègre) is a river tributary to the Ebro (''Ebre'' in Catalan) with a basin comprising territories across three states: France, Andorra and Spain. The river Segre, known to Romans and Greeks as Sicoris, and to the Arabs of Al-Andalus as Nahr az-Zaytūn (نهر الزيتون, river of Olives) has its sources on the north face of the Pic del Segre or ''Puigmal de Segre'' ("Segre's Peak") in the French department Pyrénées-Orientales (historically the ''comarca'' of Alta Cerdanya), in the Catalan Pyrenees. Edifici De Sindicats
Edifici de Sindicats is monumental building in Barcelona. Built in 1925, initially occupied by the Caixa Mútua Popular ("People's Mutual Savings Bank"), later by the Francoist "vertical labor union" and finally by the democratic union organizations. Architecture The building is roughly triangular, with two main façades and a semicircular chamfer at the corner where they meet, between Via Laietana and Carrer Argenteria in Barcelona. The building is articulated by the vertical lines of the doors and windows, interrupted discontinuously by the horizontals of the balconies. The most characteristic visual feature is the large circular structure in the style of a classical temple, atop the building at its apex. Ducados is a brand of cigarettes that is currently owned and manufactured by Altadis, a division of Imperial Tobacco. ''Ducados'' is Spain, Spanish for ''Ducats'', a gold coin was part of the original design of the package. History The brand was introduced in 1963. The original Ducados cigarettes (''"Ducados Negros"'') were strong and mainly smoked by men. As more women joined the workforce in and after the 1960s, the black cigarettes became less popular because many women didn't like the bad taste that it left in their mouths. Noticing this, Altadis released a ''Rubio'' (''"Blonde"'') variant which was lighter. The brand describes Ducados as having a well-built and rich flavor. In Spain, this brand is called "Tabaco negro" (Black tobacco) due to its supposed purity and the use of less chemical which make its color a lot darker than any other brands.
