Avinash Sarwate
Major General Avinash Kesheo Sarwate (Marathi: अविनाश क. सरवटे; born 2 February 1945) was an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (India) and was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment on 2 August 1964 as a second lieutenant posted to the 11th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment. He was transferred to the 16th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, after serving for a year and a half with 11 Kumaon. He later commanded the 5th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, as a lieutenant colonel. Sarwate was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 15th Infantry (Panther) Division of the Indian Army and subsequently Assistant Director General of Military Training (ADGMT) at the Army Headquarters. Before retirement, he was the Commandant, Services Selection Board (South). Kumaon Regiment
The Kumaon Regiment is one of the oldest infantry regiments of the Indian Army. The regiment traces its origins to the 18th century and has fought in every major campaign of the British Indian Army and the Indian Army, including the two world wars, and is one of the highest decorated regiments of the Indian army. Recruitment of troops The Kumaon Regimental Centre, established at Ranikhet, recruits Kumaonis from the Kumaon region. The troop composition has been predominantly from Kumaon along with various communities from plains. Services Selection Board
Services Selection Board (SSB) is an organization that assesses the candidates for becoming officers into the Indian Armed Forces. The board evaluates the suitability of the candidate for becoming an officer using a standardized protocol of evaluation system which constitutes personality, intelligence tests, and interviews. The tests are of both types i.e. written and practical task-based. An SSB comprises the panel of assessors, who are officers in the Indian Armed Forces and having their specialization as Psychologist, GTO (Group Task Officer), and Interviewing Officer. At times the psychologist may not be directly from the armed forces as well. In total there are thirteen Service Selection Boards across India, out of which four boards are for the Indian Army, four boards are for Indian Air Force, and five boards for the Indian Navy. National Defence Academy (India)
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint Military, defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force train together before they go on to respective service academy for further pre-commission training. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world.
