Avid Aircraft is an American aircraft kitplane manufacturer. Avid Aircraft Magnum
__NOTOC__ The Avid Aircraft Magnum is an American two-seat homebuilt cabin monoplane which was designed and sold as kits by Avid Aircraft of Caldwell, Idaho. Design and development The Magnum is a high-wing strut-braced monoplane with a welded steel tube fuselage, the wings have aluminium spars and wooden ribs covered with Ceconite. The Magnum was sold without an engine and was designed for a range of Lycoming engines from , for example the Lycoming O-235, O-320 or the O-360. The enclosed cabin has side-by-side configuration seating for two with an option for an additional seat in the baggage area for two children or a small adult. It has a fixed conventional landing gear with a tailwheel and some are fitted with floats. By 2010 the aircraft was back in production by the Airdale Flyer Company of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Avid Explorer
The Wilson Global Explorer is an American-built amphibious aircraft of the early 1990s which has been utilised to assist the exploration of remote areas. Development The high-wing twin-engine Global Explorer was designed and constructed in Idaho by Dean W. Wilson to the order of the explorer Hubert de Chevigny and the aircraft first flew in April 1991. A second aircraft was constructed later. The Global Explorer has an unusually deep and wide fuselage design with many glazed areas, and accommodation at the rear for sleeping and other purposes. For added strength, the high-set wings are each supported by brace structures from the side fuselage and from the lower sponsons. The nose gear retracts forward of the hull and acts as a bumper for water operations. The mainwheels can be removed and the fixed side sponsons assist flotation and manoeuvering on water. The Avid Flyer is a family of American single engine, high-wing, strut-braced, conventional landing gear-equipped, two seat ultralight aircraft designed for kit construction in the 1980s. Its several variants sold in large numbers. In 1987 a Flyer became the first ultralight to land at the North Pole. Design and development The kitbuilt two seat lightplane was designed by Dean Wilson in 1983, the first prototype flying in 1983 and appearing at Oshkosh that year. Kits were produced by Light Aero with several names (Bandit, Lite, Magnum and Mk.IV) with many options including two wing designs, the choice of tricycle, tailwheel, ski or float undercarriages, rescue parachutes and a variety of engines.
