Austrians Abroad (german: Auslandsösterreicher) are Austrian citizens, migrants and expatriates alike, who reside outside the Republic of Austria. The interests of these approximately 500,000 Austrians living abroad, in Germany (243,000), Switzerland (50,000), USA (30,000), UK (22,000), South Africa (18,000), Australia and Spain (15,000 each) are represented by the ''World Federation of Austrians Abroad'' (german: Auslandsösterreicher-Weltbund), a NGO with headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Austrian Mexicans
Austrian Mexicans are Mexican citizens of Austrian descent or Austrian-born people who reside in Mexico. Most immigrants arrived in the country when Austria as well as other Central European countries were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. History 19th century Austrians often settled in the northern regions of Mexico, where the German immigrants had already established themselves. Emperor Maximilian (1864-67) invited a small number of Jews from the Austria-Hungarian region and other European countries to settle in Mexico. In 1938, around 1,500 Austrian immigrants arrived in Mexico. The German-Speaking Jewry Heritage Museum ( he, המוזיאון ליהדות דוברת גרמנית) is a museum in Tefen, an industrial park in the north of Israel established by Stef Wertheimer. History The museum developed from the collection of Nahariya resident Israel Shiloni, who assembled historical material from friends and acquaintances to commemorate the German-speaking immigrants to Palestine and yekke culture. From 1968, his collection was on view at the municipality of Nahariya. In 1991, the collection moved to the Tefen Industrial Park, east of Nahariya. After the museum and the Association of Israelis of Central European Origin (Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Switzerland) signed a contract of cooperation, the museum reopened in 2005. Ashkenazi Synagogue Of Istanbul
The Ashkenazi Synagogue ( tr, Aşkenazi Sinagogu) is an Ashkenazi synagogue located near the Galata Tower in Karaköy neighborhood of Beyoğlu in Istanbul, Turkey. It is the only currently active Ashkenazi synagogue in Istanbul open to visits and prayers. The synagogue was founded by Jews of Austrian origin in 1900. It is also the last remaining synagogue from a total of three built by Ashkenazim, as the population of Ashkenazi Jews accounts for 4 percent of the total Jewish population of Turkey. Visits to the synagogue can be made during weekday mornings and for Shabbat services on Saturday mornings. The synagogue holds weddings, bar mitzvahs and other religious ceremonies in the Ashkenazi tradition. German Speaking Evangelical Congregation In Iran
The German Speaking Protestant Congregation in Iran (''Evangelische Gemeinde Deutscher Sprache in Iran'') is a church in Tehran, Iran, that was founded by expatriates in 1957. It is affiliated with the Protestant Church in Germany. The congregation acquired a plot of land and built Christ Church in Teheran (''Christuskirche Teheran'') in 1961. The church is a brick structure without a tower, seating up to 120 people. The building is located at Shahid Sheydayi Street 123/1 in the Gholhak area of northern Tehran, a center of German-speaking residents up to the 1979 revolution, near the then-German School and other community institutions. Protestant Christians founded it in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in Iran. Since the Iranian revolution, this has been the only expatriate Protestant church in Tehran.
