The 1984 Austrian Alpine Ski Championships (''Österreichischen Alpinen Skimeisterschaften 1984'') took place from 22 to 25 February in the District of Bezirk Kitzbühel, Kitzbühel. The Downhill_(ski_competition), downhill events were held in Oberndorf in Tirol, Oberndorf, the giant slalom runs in Kirchberg in Tirol, Kirchberg and the Slalom_skiing, slalom competition in Jochberg (Tirol), Jochberg. Leonhard Stock
Leonhard Stock (born 14 March 1958) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Career Stock earned his first World Cup points at age 18 in January 1977. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, Stock was originally an alternate for the downhill, but his fast training times on the course at Whiteface Mountain earned him a spot on the four-man Austrian team. On race day, he was the ninth racer on the course and posted the fastest time to win the gold medal. Stock could not repeat his surprise win at the Lake Placid Olympics on the World Cup tour until almost a decade later, winning downhill races in 1989, 1990, and 1992. At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, he just missed a second Olympic medal, finishing fourth in the downhill and eighth in the Super-G at Nakiska. Sylvia Eder
Sylvia Eder (born 24 August 1965) is a former Austrian alpine skier. Biography Born in Leogang, she won her first downhill race at Bad Gastein, Austria in 1982 at the age of 17. The downhill remained her specialty discipline throughout her early career. She later developed an interest in the slalom, at which she won the world championship in 1985 in Bormio and the silver medal, after Erika Hess of Switzerland, at the World Cup in 1987. Later Eder focused on the giant slalom and the super-G, the latter becoming her main discipline. In 1993 she won a silver medal at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Morioka. Nearly 13 years after her first World Cup victory, in December 1994 she once again celebrated a success, winning the super-G at Vail, Colorado before her team colleague Veronika Wallinger. Elisabeth Kirchler (born 17 November 1963) is a retired Austrian alpine skier. Biography She did grow up in the small village Lanersbach, community Tux. Her nickname is Lis or Lisi. Winning the silver medal in the giant slalom Race in the World Championships 1985 (female races were held at Santa Caterina) was a great surprise because she was known as a "speed racer" (and by the way, female racers of the Austrian Ski Federation weren't successful in that discipline since March 1978). Mathias Berthold (born 18 May 1965) is an Austrian former alpine skier who specialised in the slalom. He competed in the 1980s and 1990s. His career included twenty-three FIS World Cup starts and one FIS World Cup Podium. He subsequently became a coach, serving as coach of the German women's team for a period of seven years, culminating in the team winning three gold medals at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
