Australian Lacrosse League
The Australian Lacrosse League (ALL) was an elite-level men's lacrosse competition that ran from 2004 to 2007 with the aim of boosting the profile and participation of the sport in Australia. The ALL replaced the Australian Senior Lacrosse Championships, which was held annually during a week-long carnival. Due to the unpopularity among some groups toward the format of the competition, from 2008 the national championship is again been contested as a carnival at a single venue. The three strongest lacrosse-playing states of Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia competed in the ALL. The long-term goal of the league was to include a team from every Australian state. Teams played each other twice, with double-headers (a Saturday and Sunday game) played over three weekends. Each state hosted one double-header and travelled for the other. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Peter Inge
Peter Inge (born 13 December 1977) is a lacrosse player who was the first Australian to play in Major League Lacrosse, being drafted to the Boston Cannons in 2003. Originally from the Woodville Lacrosse Club in South Australia, Inge first represented Australia at the 1996 ILF World Under 19 Championship, where they came runner-up to the United States. After competing in the senior Australian team alongside his brother James at the 1998 World Lacrosse Championship where Australia finished third, Inge stamped his mark on the world stage when in 2002 he was selected in the World All-Stars team following Australia's bronze medal at the championships in Perth. John Tokarua
John Tokarua is a lacrosse player from Melbourne, Australia. Originally from the Caulfield Lacrosse club in Victoria, Tokarua played one season at Malvern Lacrosse Club where he won Fairest and Best for his club and his state (2002). Tokarua represented Australia in the 1996 World Under-19 Lacrosse Championship before being selected in the seniors for the 2002 and 2006 World Lacrosse Championships, where he gained All-World selection at the latter. Tokarua was named Co-Captain for 2010 Australian Team that won bronze in Manchester, England. A two-time Australian Lacrosse League All-Star, Tokarua has gained a fierce reputation as a groundball, takeaway and goalscoring machine off the defensive midfield line. Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. Lacrosse in Australia is a minor sport, with a long and proud history dating back to 1876, with a small but dedicated community of participants and volunteers. The established centres for lacrosse are in the greater metropolitan areas of Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth.
