The term dates back to the 15th century, when large blue velvet-covered books were used for record-keeping by the Parliament of England. The Murrumbidgee Irrigator
''The Irrigator'', formerly ''The Murrumbidgee Irrigator'', is a weekly newspaper published in Leeton, New South Wales, Australia, since 1915. History ''The Murrumbidgee Irrigator'' was first published on 23 April 1915 only a few years after the establishment of the town. Its circulation included Barellan, Brobenah, Darlington Point, Leeton, Mirrool, Whitton, Wilbriggie, and Yanco. It changed hands a number of times. John Joseph Sullivan owned the paper early in its history, while it was later acquired by Rupert Henderson, who was first general manager of John Fairfax & Sons and later managing director. In November 2001, it was renamed ''The Irrigator'' and remains in publication under this name. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. From 1861 to 2020, ''The Morning Bulletin'' was published as a print edition, before then becoming an exclusively online newspaper. The final print edition was published on 27 June 2020. History The first issue of ''The Bulletin'' was launched on 9 July 1861. It is the second oldest business in Rockhampton, the oldest being the Criterion Hotel which was established in October 1860. ''The Sun'' was an Australian afternoon tabloid newspaper, first published under that name in 1910. History ''The Sunday Sun'' was first published on 5 April 1903. In 1910 Hugh Denison founded Sun Newspaper Ltd and took over publication of the old and ailing and ''Australian Star'' and its sister ''Sunday Sun'', appointing Monty Grover as editor-in-chief. The ''Star'' became ''The Sun'', and the ''Sunday Sun'' became ''The Sun: Sunday edition'' on 11 December 1910. ''The Newcastle Sun'' was a newspaper published in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It had previously been published as ''The Northern Times''. History ''The Northern Times'' was first published in 1916. In 1918 the ''Times'' was purchased by Sir Hugh Denison, publisher of '' The Sun'' who changed the name to ''The Newcastle Sun''. ''The Newcastle Sun'' was acquired by '' Newcastle Morning Herald'' in 1936 and continued until 1980 when it ceased publication. ''Truth'' was a newspaper published in Sydney, Australia. It was founded in August 1890 by William Nicholas Willis and its first editor was Adolphus Taylor. In 1891 it claimed to be "The organ of radical democracy and Australian National Independence" and advocated "a republican Commonwealth created by the will of the whole people", but from its early days it was mainly a scandal sheet. Subsequent owners included Adolphus Taylor, Paddy Crick and John Norton. ''The Inquirer & Commercial News'' was a newspaper published in Perth, Western Australia from 1855 to 1901. In May 1847, Edmund Stirling acquired ''The Inquirer'' from Francis Lochée, who established the paper in August 1840 together with William Tanner. Tanner disposed of his interest in the paper in June 1843. In July 1855, ''The Inquirer'' merged with ''The Commercial News and Shipping Gazette'', which was owned by Robert John Sholl, to form ''The Inquirer & Commercial News'', in the joint ownership of Sholl and Stirling. Stirling's eldest son John joined the paper around 1863 and operated the paper with his father when Sholl left. In 1878, Stirling's three other sons Horace, Frederick and Baldwin joined the paper, trading as Stirling & Sons. When Stirling retired, his three sons took control of the paper as Stirling Bros.
