The Australia international rules football team is Australia's senior representative team in International rules football, a hybrid sport derived from Australian rules football and Gaelic football. The current team is solely made up of players from the Australian Football League. Although Australian rules football is played around the world at an amateur level, Australia is considered far too strong to compete against at senior level. Hence, selection in the Australian international rules team is the only opportunity that Australian rules footballers have to represent their country. 2017 International Rules Series
The 2017 International Rules Series (officially the 2017 Virgin Australia International Rules Series) was the 20th International Rules Series contested by Gaelic footballers from Ireland and Australian footballers from Australia. The series was hosted by Australia and was the first in four years to revert to an aggregate points format. The two test matches were played on 12 and 18 November 2017 at the Adelaide Oval and Domain Stadium. Fixtures * First test match: Australia v. Dayne Zorko
Dayne Zorko (born 9 February 1989) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Zorko is a five-time Merrett–Murray Medallist and was selected in the 2017 All-Australian team. He was also the Lions' leading goalkicker in 2016 and 2017. Robbie Tarrant (born 25 April 1989) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), having previously played for the North Melbourne Football Club. He is the younger brother of former and player, Chris Tarrant. Early career Tarrant was born in Mildura, Victoria and is the younger brother of former Collingwood defender Chris Tarrant. Rory Sloane (born 17 March 1990) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Sloane is a dual Malcolm Blight Medallist and was selected in the All-Australian team in 2016. He also won a Showdown Medal in 2017. Scott Pendlebury (born 7 January 1988) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He has served as the Collingwood captain since the 2014 season. In round 18 of the 2020 season, he broke the Collingwood record for most VFL/AFL games played, as well as most games as captain. Brendon Goddard (born 20 May 1985) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda and Essendon in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jack Gunston (born 16 October 1991) is a professional Australian footballer who plays for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL).
