Australia Bicentenary Gold Cup
The 1988 Australian Bicentennial Gold Cup was a one-off association football tournament to celebrate the bincentennial of first settlement at Port Jackson by Captain Arthur Phillip in 1788. It was contested by 1988 AFC Asian Cup winners Saudi Arabia, 1986 FIFA World Cup winners Argentina, world number one-ranked side Brazil and host nation Australia. The tournament was particularly notable for Australian fans for a remarkable extreme-long range goal scored by Charlie Yankos in Australia's unexpected 4–1 win over then World Champions Argentina. Football Australia is the governing body of soccer, futsal, and beach soccer within Australia, headquartered in Sydney. Although the first governing body of the sport was founded in 1911, Football Australia in its current form was only established in 1961 as the Australian Soccer Federation. It was later reconstituted in 2003 as the Australian Soccer Association before adopting the name of Football Federation Australia in 2005. In contemporary identification, a corporate decision was undertaken to institute that name to deliver a "more united football" in a deliberation from the current CEO, James Johnson. Vlado Bozinovski
Vlado Bozinovski (born 30 March 1964) is an Australian retired footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Club career Bozinovski immigrated to Australia in his teens, going on to play football in the country for South Melbourne FC and Footscray JUST. In 1989, aged 25, and following a very brief spell in Belgium, he moved to Portugal and joined S.C. Beira-Mar, appearing in 32 league games as the Aveiro club retained its top division status. Staying in the country, Bozinovski signed for giants Sporting Clube de Portugal but, after one single season, returned to his previous club and, in the following year, signed for Ipswich Town in the Premier League. Paul Wade (born 20 March 1962) is an Australian retired soccer player, who is best known for his long-term role as captain of the Socceroos, Australia's national soccer team. Club career Born in Cheshire, England, Wade moved to Australia with his parents at age 11. Jorginho (footballer, Born 1964)
Jorge de Amorim Campos (born 17 August 1964), better known as Jorginho, is a Brazilian professional football coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Vasco da Gama. A quick, technically gifted, and hard-working right back, Jorginho is regarded as one of the best full-backs of his generation, and as one of the greatest Brazilian defenders of all time. Parramatta Stadium was a sports stadium in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, 23 kilometres west of Sydney's central business district. Scott Ollerenshaw (born 9 February 1968) is a former Australian association football player, best known for his appearances for his country's national side in the late 1980s. Club career A prominent forward and winger, Scott Ollerenshaw played for several clubs including St George Saints and Sydney Olympic in Australia's National Soccer League before heading overseas. Olympic Park Stadium (Melbourne)
Olympic Park Stadium was a multi-purpose outdoor stadium located on Olympic Boulevard in inner Melbourne. The stadium was built as an athletics training venue for the 1956 Olympics, a short distance from the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), which served as the Olympic Stadium. Over the years it was the home of rugby league side, Melbourne Storm and the A-League team, Melbourne Victory; throughout its life the stadium played host to athletics. Olympic Park Stadium was located in Olympic Park, which is part of the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct.
