Alf Magne Austad
Alf Magne Austad (28 March 1946 – 17 August 2013) was a Norwegian painter. Born in Haugesund, he studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry, the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts, the Royal Institute of Art and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. He taught at the Western Norway Academty of Arts from 1980, and was its rector from 1982. As a painter, he subscribed to realist painting from the 1970s, inspired by pop art, photographic realism and surrealism. He participated four times at the Autumn Exhibition and his works have been bought, among others, by the National Gallery of Norway, Riksgalleriet and the Arts Council Norway. Mark Evans Austad
Mark Evans Austad (April 1, 1917 – October 20, 1988) was an American radio and television commentator in Washington D.C. (under the name Mark Evans), and served under Gerald Ford as United States Ambassador to Finland from 1975 to 1977, and as United States Ambassador to Norway from 1981 to 1984, under Ronald Reagan. Biography Austad was born Marcus Jacob Austad in Ogden, Utah, to Norwegian immigrant parents, Jacob L. and Signa Anderson Austad. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and served a three-year mission to Finland and Norway from 1936 to 1939. From 1939 to 1941, he attended Weber College in Ogden where he was student body president and active in public speaking, in which he won first place in national competitions. Austad married the former Lola Brown in 1942 and they had three daughters. Tore Austad
Tore Austad (born 8 April 1935) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. Born in Skedsmo, Akershus, he received a cand. philol. degree in 1962, and worked as a professor of Norwegian at the University of Chicago from 1964 to 1966. Returning to Norway he worked at various academic institutions, before being elected to the Storting from the county of Vest-Agder in 1977, where he sat for three periods, until 1989. On 14 October 1981, he was appointed Minister of Education and Church Affairs in the new government of Kåre Willoch. On 8 June 1983, the Conservative Party joined in a coalition with the Christian Democratic Party and the Centre Party, in order to form a majority government. Austad, Bygland
Austad is a village in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the river Otra, just north of the lake Åraksfjorden. The village of Ose lies just to the south, across the river. The area is flat, wedged between the river and the mountains to the east. The village area is mostly used as farmland. Austad was the historic site of the Austad Church. Austad is a former municipality of the former Vest-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1909 until its dissolution in 1963. The municipality encompassed the area surrounding the Rosfjorden in the southern, coastal part of the present-day municipality of Lyngdal. Austad Church (Bygland)
Austad Church ( no, Austad kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bygland Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Tveit on the south shore of the river Otra, just off the Norwegian National Road 9. It is one of the churches for the Bygland og Årdal parish which is part of the Otredal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1880 using plans drawn up by the architect Oskar Fabricius who was from Kristiania. The church seats about 250 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1328, but it was likely built around the year 1200.
