Aurelius John Lamothe Marie (23 December 1904 – 28 September 1995) was a Dominican politician and jurist who served as the second President of Dominica from 1980 to 1983. Political career He served as a magistrate and jurist before his election. On 25 February 1980, the House of Assembly then elected Aurelius Marie as president. Marie took the Oath of Office the following day before Justice Cecil Hewlett. He served as president until 1983. Oliver James "O. J." Seraphin (or Seraphine; born August 2, 1943) is a former Dominican politician. He served as the Minister of communication and works and housing for the Labour Party government from 1975–1979 and acting Prime Minister of Dominica from 25 June 1979 until 21 July 1980. Early life Seraphin grew up in Roseau, Dominica, the capital, and received primary and secondary education at Roseau Mixed School and Dominica Grammar School; later in life, he studied at the Carnegie Institute in the United States and in Cuba. Dame Mary Eugenia Charles, (15 May 1919 – 6 September 2005) was a Dominican politician who was Prime Minister of Dominica from 21 July 1980 until 14 June 1995. The first female lawyer in Dominica, she was Dominica's first, and to date only, female prime minister. She was the second female prime minister in the Caribbean after Lucina da Costa of the Netherlands Antilles. She was the first female in the Americas to be elected in her own right as head of government. She served for the second longest period of any Dominican prime minister, and was the world's fourth longest-serving female Prime Minister, behind Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka and Indira Gandhi of India. Sir Clarence Henry Augustus Seignoret (25 February 1919 – 5 May 2002) was the third President of Dominica. Biography Born in Roseau, Seignoret was educated at the Dominica Grammar School and at college in Saint Lucia before he started working as a civil servant in Dominica from 1936. From 1958 to 1960 he undertook an international public service course in Oxford University. On returning to Dominica he resumed his governmental career, acting on various occasions as first Secretary to the Cabinet and substitute to the President. The House of Assembly of Dominica elected him as President of Dominica in 1983, and he was sworn in during October of that year. Re-elected to the presidency in 1988, he resigned in 1993.
