Aung Than ( my, အောင်သန်း) is a Burmese professor of dentistry, and the first rector of the Institute of Medicine, Yangon from 1964 to 1982. He later became the Burmese ambassador to Australia. Khin Maung Lay ( my, ခင်မောင်လေး; born 13 November 1941) is a Burmese dentist who served as Rector of the University of Dental Medicine, Yangon from 1983 to 1992. He was the second president of the Myanmar Dental Association (MDA) from 1985 to 1995. Early life and education Khin Maung Lay was born on 13 November 1941 in Rangoon, Myanmar. The Myanmar Dental Association ( my, မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ သွားနှင့်ခံတွင်း ဆရာဝန်အသင်း; MDA) is a professional association established in 1979 which has more than 4,000 members. The association publishes ''Myanmar Dental Journal'' every year. It also arranges Myanmar Dental Conference in which FDI World Dental Federation speakers also make their presentations. Myanmar Dental Association and Myanmar Dental Council are the only two professional organizations for Myanmar Dentists. Yangon ( my, ရန်ကုန်; ; ), formerly spelled as Rangoon, is the capital of the Yangon Region and the largest city of Myanmar (also known as Burma). Yangon served as the capital of Myanmar until 2006, when the military government relocated the administrative functions to the purpose-built capital city of Naypyidaw in north central Myanmar. The Myanmar Dental Council ( my, မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ သွားနှင့်ခံတွင်း ဆေးကောင်စီ; MDC) is a professional association established in 1970 which has more than 4,000 members. The Myanmar Dental Council is formed under the Myanmar Dental Council law (Chapter III) with the approval of the Ministry of Health of Myanmar. If any registered dental practitioner is desirous of practising the dental services, he shall apply to the council to obtain the general dental practitioner license. Every Myanmar dentists need to submit their license application forms to the Council yearly. The council arranged medical trip to rural areas with active members every year.
