Auburn is an unincorporated community in Wake County, North Carolina, United States, just southeast of Raleigh. It lies approximately halfway between Garner and Clayton along Garner Road, a former alignment of US 70. The borders of the community are not well defined, but it is centered along Garner Road between Auburn Church Road and Guy Road. History The North Carolina Railroad established a depot at Auburn, halfway between Garner and Clayton. A small community grew around the depot, which was later annexed into Garner. Landmarks The Wayland E. Poole House is located in Auburn and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Clayton is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States, and is considered a satellite town of Raleigh. As of 2010, Clayton's population was 16,116, up from 6,973 at the 2000 census. North Carolina Railroad
The North Carolina Railroad is a state-owned rail corridor extending from Morehead City, North Carolina to Charlotte, North Carolina. The railroad carries over seventy freight trains offered by the Norfolk Southern Railway and eight passenger trains (Amtrak's Carolinian and Piedmont) daily. It is managed by the North Carolina Railroad Company and operated by Norfolk Southern.
