Atul Mehta
Atul Manibhai Mehta (born 13 December 1949) is a former Indian cricketer who played first-class cricket between 1967 and 1981. Mehta was born in Rangoon, Burma, where his parents owned a business. A batsman and leg-spin bowler, he played Ranji Trophy cricket for Saurashtra, Bombay and Gujarat. Mehta played in Bombay's victory in the Ranji Trophy final in 1970–71, scoring valuable runs in the lower order in the 48-run victory over Maharashtra Maharashtra (; , abbr. The Ranji Trophy (also known as Mastercard Ranji Trophy for sponsorship reasons) is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations. Saurashtra cricket team is one of the three first-class cricket teams based in Gujarat (the others being Baroda and Gujarat) that compete in the first-class tournament Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Competition history Previous teams from Saurashtra were Nawanagar and Western India. Nawanagar won the Ranji Trophy in 1936–37 and were runners up in 1937–38. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams.
