Attnang-Puchheim
Attnang-Puchheim is a town in Austria, located in the Vöcklabruck district, lying between the cities Vöcklabruck and Schwanenstadt. Its partner city is the city of Puchheim in Bavaria, Germany. Geography Attnang-Puchheim is centered in the ''Hausruckviertel'', a county within Upper Austria in the northern Austrian Prealps. Attnang-Puchheim is also called as "Door to Salzkammergut". History Attnang was founded by Bavarian settlers in the late 8th century. The town of Puchheim is documented the first time in 1135, Attnang about one hundred years later in 1242. In 1912 the community changed its name from Puchheim to Attnang-Puchheim to acknowledge this growing part of the town. Maria Theresia Fekter is an Austrian politician (ÖVP) and was the Austrian Minister of Finance between 2011 and 2013. Before that, she was Minister of the Interior. Friedrich Peter (13 July 1921 – 25 September 2005) was an Austrian politician who served as chairman of the Freedom Party of Austria from 1958 to 1978. He was an active Nazi between 1938 and 1946. World War II and SS service Born in Attnang-Puchheim, Upper Austria, as the son of a social democratic engine driver and a master baker's daughter, Peter joined the NSDAP in 1938 and volunteered for the Waffen-SS at the age of 17. During World War II, he served at the western and eastern fronts and achieved the rank of Obersturmführer in the 10th regiment of the 1st SS Infantry Brigade. Parts of this brigade were detached to Einsatzgruppe C. The Einsatzgruppen systematically shot hundreds of thousands of Jews, Romani, communists, and others behind the front during the summer of 1941. Puchheim (Central Bavarian: ''Buachham'') is a town near Munich in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck, in Bavaria, Germany. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. Puchheim is divided into two parts: the old and rural part called Puchheim-Ort and the new part of Puchheim (Puchheim-Bahnhof) that was founded when the Munich S-Bahn was built. Before that there was one of the first civil airfields in Bavaria, which was later used as a prisoner of war camp during World War I.
