Athletics competitions have been held at the quadrennial Micronesian Games, that are open for the 10 member federations of the Micronesian Games Council, since the inaugural edition 1969 in Saipan, then Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (now Northern Mariana Islands). Athletics (sport)
Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. Athletics is mostly an individual sport, with the exception of relay races and competitions which combine athletes' performances for a team score, such as cross country. List Of Micronesian Games Records In Athletics
The Micronesian Games records in athletics are set by athletes who are representing one of the 10 Micronesian Games Council member federations at the Micronesian Games. The games are quadrennial events that began in 1969. The list is compiled from the Athletics Weekly webpage courtesy of Tony Isaacs, and from the Oceania Athletics Association webpage. Dates and some relay teams were determined from the national records publication of the Oceania Athletics Association, from the Pacific Islands Athletics Statistics, from the Marshall Islands Journal, and from the 2006 and 2010 results lists. The record assignment for the sprints and jumps is tentative, because there is almost no wind information. 2018 Micronesian Games
The 9th Micronesian Games were held from July 15 to July 27, 2018, in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia. Participating nations Ordinarily, there are 10 participants at the games. However, Nauru were unable to compete in this edition due to travel costs. As such, the participants at the games were: the four constituent states of the Federated States of Micronesia ( Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap), three sovereign countries (Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau) and two insular areas of the United States (Northern Mariana Islands, Guam) all located within the Micronesia region. Sports Athletes competed in 13 different sports at the games: athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, the "Micronesian all-around", open water swimming, soccer, spearfishing, va'a, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. 2014 Micronesian Games
The 8th Micronesian Games were held from July 20 to July 30, 2014, in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The Games began with an opening ceremony on the track and field grounds. They included "traditional war dances", and the unfurling of the Games flag in the air as it was delivered by parachute. At the closing of the Games, Guam had topped the medal table with eighty-one medals, of which forty-two were gold. Participating countries All Micronesian nations, states and territories participated in the Games. The host country was represented by four teams, one for each of its federated states: Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. The other participants included four independent countries (Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau) and two unincorporated organised territories of the United States: the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam. 2010 Micronesian Games
The 7th Micronesian Games was held August 1–10 in Palau. Initially, the 7th Games were to be hosted in Majuro, Marshall Islands; however, in April 2008, the organisers announced that the Games could be "scaled down", with a number events cancelled due to a lack of facilities in Majuro. In May 2008, the Marshall Islands announced that it was withdrawing from hosting the competition. The hosting of the Games was subsequently awarded to Palau., which previously hosted the 1998 Games. The Games were officially opened by the President of the Republic of Palau, Johnson Toribiong. He participated at the first Micronesian Games 1969 in baseball, but for the Mariana Islands (now Northern Mariana Islands) team. Before opening the Games, he also took part at this year's torch relay during the opening ceremony in the stadium. Susupe
Susupe ( Old Japanese name: 鈴部町, ''Suzubu-chō'') is a village on Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. Susupe is also known as Susupi. As of 2000, its population is 2,083. 2006 Micronesian Games
The 6th Micronesian Games were held on Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands from June 23-July 2, 2006. The Games featured competition in 15 different sports/disciplines. In February 2006, the Games were canceled by the Governor of the Northern Marianas, Benigno R. Fitial, due to a financial crisis and a lack of planning. However, after pleas from athletes, coaches and parents, and the creation of a financial plan, the Games were allowed to go on. On June 23, 2006, the games were officially opened by the Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands, Benigno R. Fitial. The torch lighter was swimmer Xenavee Torwal. She has won 22 gold medals in past Micronesian Games as Xenavee Pangelinan. Kolonia
Kolonia is a coastal town and the capital of Pohnpei State in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). It was also the former FSM capital before being replaced by Palikir in 1989, located nearby to the southwest in the municipality of Sokehs. It has 6,074 people. Description Kolonia Town is located in the north central section of Pohnpei Island. It was formerly part of Nett municipality but has been a separate municipality since May 1965. Koror
Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. It consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island (also ''Oreor Island''). Mangilao, Guam
Mangilao is a village on the eastern shore of the United States territory of Guam. The village's population has decreased slightly since the island's 2010 census.
