The men's pole vault competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was held at the Olympic Stadium between 13–15 August. Thirty-one athletes from 16 nations competed. Thiago Braz da Silva of Brazil won the gold medal, the nation's first medal in the men's pole vault. Renaud Lavillenie of France was unable to successfully defend his 2012 gold, but became the seventh man to win two medals with silver this time. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's Pole Vault
The men's pole vault at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 17, 2016. The men's and women's pole vault competition were the only events on the opening day. They were conducted simultaneously with two parallel runways down the center of the arena. The runways were at floor level, unlike the more common raised runways which is a more dangerous situation; one which resulted in the injury to Renaud Lavillenie minutes after setting the world record two years earlier. It was that injury that prevented Lavillenie from defending his world indoor title at the previous championship, but he was back this year with the world leading jump going into the competition. Bernard Rajzman
Bernard Rajzman (born April 25, 1957) is a former Brazilian volleyball player. He was born in Rio de Janeiro. He was enshrined in the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. Nowadays, Bernard is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Rajzman began his sports career at the age of 11, playing basketball for Fluminense, but traded the sport for volleyball because he was too short. At the age of 17 he entered the Brazil men's national volleyball team, for which he played in three Olympics, winning a silver medal in Los Angeles 1984. He also won seven South American Championships, one gold medal at the 1983 Pan-American Games, silver in the 1982 FIVB Men's World Championship and bronze in the 1981 Volleyball World Cup. Pole vaulting, also known as pole jumping, is a track and field event in which an athlete uses a long and flexible pole, usually made from fiberglass or carbon fiber, as an aid to jump over a bar. Jeff Hartwig (born September 25, 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American pole vaulter. Biography In 1998, Hartwig set two North American records with and . The latter was an improvement of 16 centimetres from his personal best of from 1997.
