The Women's 5000m athletic event for the 2012 Summer Paralympics took place at the London Olympic Stadium on 2 September 2012. The event, open to T53 and T54 wheelchair athletes, consisted of 2 heats and a final. Wakako Tsuchida
(born 15 October 1974) is an athlete from Tokyo, Japan, who is an accomplished women's wheelchair marathoner, ice sledge racer and triathlete. She was the first professional wheelchair athlete from Japan and the first Japanese athlete to win gold medals in both the Summer and Winter Paralympics. She has paraplegia. Career She has won the women's wheelchair division of the Boston Marathon five times, in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; the Honolulu Marathon twice, in 2003 and 2005, the Oita Marathon four times, in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and the 2010 London Marathon with a time of 1:52:33. She competed at the 2012 Boston Marathon and in a close finish she was one second behind the winner Shirley Reilly. Christina Schwab (née Ripp) (born July 31, 1980) is an American Paralympic Games, Paralympic basketball player and distance track/road racer. Competition Schwab started competing for Paralympic Games in 2000 where she got into the 5th place at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. Four years later she won a gold medal in Athens, Greece for wheelchair basketball competition and in 2008 she won her second gold in Beijing, China. Sandra Graf (born 9 December 1969) is a Swiss wheelchair athlete. Graf competes in wheelchair races of a variety of distances. Life Graf has twice put her career on hold to have children. In 2003 a lung embolism set back her training and kept her from competing in the marathon and 5,000-meter distances, although she still competed in the 800- and 1,500-meter races. Rochelle "Shelly" Woods (born 4 June 1986) is an elite British Paralympic athlete from the suburb of Layton in Blackpool, Lancashire. Woods is a T54 athlete who competes as a wheelchair racer in medium and long-distance events. She has competed in two Paralympic Games, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012, where she won three medals. Liu Wenjun (born 5 May 1995) is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in category T54 wheelchair sprint and middle-distance events. Wenjun competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China.
