Athletics events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics were held in the Olympic Stadium and in The Mall in London, United Kingdom, from 31 August to 9 September 2012. Classification Athletes were given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: *11–13: Blind (11) and visually impaired (12, 13) athletes *20: Athletes with an intellectual disability *31–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy *40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) *42–46: Amputees *51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers were given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. Mandy François-Elie
Mandy François-Élie (born 27 September 1989) is a French Paralympian athlete competing in the category T37. François-Élie won the T37 100m sprint at the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games at London and followed this with both the 100m and 200m titles at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon. Career history François-Élie was born on the island of Martinique in 1989. She became interested in athletics at a young age and competed while in school. In 2008, while leaving school, she suffered a stroke which put her into a coma. On recovery it was discovered that she had suffered permanent motor damage. Several years later François-Elie returned to sport and began competing in T37 classification sprints. François-Élie was selected for the French national team for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Cao Yuanhang (born 20 November 1991) is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in T37 classification sprint and long jump events. Jenny McLoughlin (born 3 October 1991) is a British Paralympian track and field athlete competing mainly in T37 sprint events. She has represented Great Britain in the 2008 Summer Paralympics and in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. After moving to Wales at the age of 14, she became eligible to join the Wales team for the Commonwealth Games, winning silver in the T37 sprint in India. History McLoughlin was born in Stockport in England in 1991. McLoughlin, who has cerebral palsy, joined an athletics club when her family moved to Wales in 2005. She joined the Athletics team and switched her training ground to Cardiff in 2007, taking the UK School Games gold that year.
