The women's long jump competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was held at the Olympic Stadium on 25–27 August. Competition format The competition consisted of two rounds, qualification and final. In qualification, each athlete jumped three times (stopping early if they made the qualifying distance). At least the top twelve athletes moved on to the final; if more than twelve reached the qualifying distance, all who did so advanced. Distances were reset for the final round. Finalists jumped three times, after which the eight best jumped three more times (with the best distance of the six jumps counted). The Olympic Stadium of Athens "Spyros Louis" ( el, Ολυμπιακό Στάδιο Αθηνών "Σπύρος Λούης", ''Olympiakó Stádio Athinon "Spyros Louis"'') is a sports stadium in Athens, Greece. Wang Lina (; born February 28, 1983, in Benxi, Liaoning) is a Chinese long jumper. Wang won the silver medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships, and competed at the 2004 Olympic Games without reaching the final. Jacqueline Lois Elizabeth Edwards (born 14 April 1971 in Falmouth, Trelawny Parish) is a Bahamian long jumper, who was born in Jamaica. Career Edwards attended Queen's College High School in Nassau, Bahamas and graduated in 1987. She graduated from Stanford University in 1992. At Stanford, Jackie was an All-American long and triple jumper (1992). Edwards was also a 100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay sprinter. Ineta Radēviča
Ineta Radēviča (born 13 July 1981 in Krāslava, Soviet Union) is a retired Latvian athlete, competing in the long jump and triple jump. Radēviča won the bronze medal in the 2003 European U-23 championship. She has also won two NCAA championships, while competing for the University of Nebraska. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, she was 13th in the triple jump and 20th in the long jump. Radēviča became popular after posing nude for Playboy magazine before the 2004 Summer Olympics. She finished fifth at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships and eighth at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Tünde Vaszi (born 18 April 1972 in Érpiskolt, Romania) is a retired Hungarian long jumper. Yelena Koshcheyeva (born 17 February 1973 in Taraz, Zhambyl Province) is a Kazakhstani long jumper. Her most successful year was 2002, when she won a bronze medal at the 2002 Asian Games, Asian Games and a gold medal at the Asian Championships in Colombo. Grace Upshaw Tyler (born September 25, 1975) is an American track and field athlete who competes in the long jump. She represented the United States in her specialty at the Summer Olympics in both 2004 and 2008. She has also reached the long jump final at the World Championships in Athletics on two occasions (2003 and 2005). She was the bronze medallist in the long jump at the IAAF World Athletics Final in those years. Bianca Kappler (born 8 August 1977) is a German long jumper. Biography Born in Hamburg, she finished ninth at the 2004 Olympic Games. She competed at the World Championships in 2003 and 2005 without reaching the finals. At the 2005 European Indoor Championships her last jump was measured to 6.96 metres, which would have secured her the gold medal by a comfortable margin. However, Kappler admitted to the referees that she could not possibly have jumped 6.96 m, which would be 30 cm further than her personal best at the time.
