Athletics At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's High Jump
The men's high jump was one of four men's jumping events on the Athletics at the 1964 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo. Qualification was held on October 20, 1964, with the final on October 21. 29 athletes from 20 nations entered, with 1 not starting in the qualification round. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Valeriy Brumel of the Soviet Union, the nation's second consecutive victory in the men's high jump. Brumel, who had earned silver in 1960, and American John Thomas (high jump), John Thomas, who had previously taken bronze in 1960 and now won silver, became the first two men to win multiple medals in the Olympic high jump. Olympic Stadium (Tokyo)
The Japan National Stadium, officially named and formerly known as or , is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaokamachi, Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Samuel Igun
Samuel Igun (born 28 February 1938 in Warri, Delta State) is a retired Olympic athlete from Nigeria. He specialised in the triple jump, high jump and long jump events during his career. Anthony Howard Sneazwell (4 October 1942 —) is an Australian former high jumper who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. He was also the team dentist of the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL from 1988 until he retired in 2011. Lawrie Peckham
Lawrence William "Lawrie" Peckham (born 4 December 1944) is a retired Australian high jumper. A ten-time national champion, he won two gold and one silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1966–1974. He competed at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics and placed 10th, 8th and 18th, respectively. In 1977, Peckham married fellow Olympian, Judy Canty, the 1978 Commonwealth Games champion in the 800 metres. In retirement he worked as a physical education coach. Edward Julius Caruthers Jr. (born April 13, 1945) is an American former athlete who competed mainly in the men's high jump event during his career. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he competed for the United States at the 1968 Summer Olympics held in Mexico City, Mexico, where and when he won the silver medal in the men's high jump event. Valeriy Sergeyevich Skvortsov (russian: Валерий Скворцов; (31 May 1945 – 24 September 2021) was a high jumper who represented the USSR in the 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics. Skvortsov was first noticed by Soviet high jump coach Viktor Lonsky, who offered him training in a converted sports gym located within the walls of an old Catholic cathedral. His sports career began to accelerate as he won various local high jump competitions and later was invited to Moscow to train for the Soviet Olympic team.
